Springfield area MO Highway Patrol?
Hi guys,
I actually live in Nixa just south of Springfield. I mainly monitor with my Pro-97 on most of the Springfield and surrounding area Public Safety frequencies. What are the best frequencies and PL tones for MO Highway Patrol in my area? Also, which troop serves this area? I pretty much use the RadioShack 800mhz antenna with my scanner, but would there be a better antenna to use for monitoring Highway Patrol? Thanks for any info in advance.
73,
Roger

Troop D
You shouldn't have a big problem picking up dispatch.
Not sure about the 800mhz Antenna though, it may work fine.
I know I can pick up Dispatch inside the House in Conway, Mo with an RH77CA.

Scroll down to Troop D.
You may be able to pick up the Taney County Relay from your location.

BaLa is dead on with this....those towers are cranking out the power on lowband vhf...it goes a long long way...however the problem is that unless you live close to a relay (these are uhf and 20 watts) you're not going to hear much of what the trooper has to say.

He's about 30 miles from Branson, so with a little luck he may be able to hear the Relay.
btw, When I spent some time in Springfield a month ago, I was able to pick up dispatch on my Pro97/96 even with the 800mhz antenna.
I have a 5/8 Wave UHF Trunkmount on my car, and I was also able to pick up the Taney Cty relay a few times.
As far as antenna goes, I like this antenna.

not exactly the best but it works pretty good for me..

Hey, I think I can help you ! I'm about 18 miles North of SGF, and here's what I hear:
Dispatch: 42.06 PL 203.5 - also used as a Car-to-Car
Car-to-Car and Air-to- Car: 42.00 PL 186.2
Car-to-Car: 42.02 PL?
Troop D West: 42.12 PL.203.5
Car-to-Dispatch 42.22 PL 203.5 (most often heard car freq)
HP Extender: 148.6 usually with a PL of 203.5
154.665 : Think I heard this used as Air-to-Car some time back
*154.6875 - PL 136.5
154.905 - PL 203.5
Detectives: 154.920 - no PL noted (heard recently- don't spread it around, OK? 'Course, now it's in RR ! )
*158.970 - PL 146.2
42.82 - PL 186.2
456.425 - PL 136.5
*456.475
*= not quite sure about it
Hope this helps. I really think there are more that I should be able to hear, I've got several more in the scanner that I found in the RR database, but have never heard anything on, and sometimes I've come up on a HP traffic stop and never heard the patrolman on the scanner beforehand. Guess that's what keeps the hobby interesting, right?

Oh, and I use the Pro-97 with the R/S telescoping antenna. In the Chevy pickup I hook it to a R/S magmount antenna on the roof, which seems to help everything but the 800 MhZ band.

I would go with the Diamond RH77ca. It works darn good for me in Troop C on my 246t and my pro-96. Awesome for lowband reception. If you are looking for a mobile antenna, you might look at a VHF 5/8 wave. I've had pretty good luck with picking up the lowband frequencies on it.... plus it doesn't sacrifice your performance on UHF, although 800mhz is pretty rough. I've also got a Larsen lowband nmo mount.. its the nmo40c, it does well on lowband, but you lose a lot of coverage on VHF-Hi and above, although it will pull in more 800mhz than my nmo150c. Good luck!
