Default MT State P25 Sites in Flathead County

Looks like the Flathead County and Lakeside Sites are on the air. I've been monitoring all day and haven't heard any traffic on the sites. I updated the database with the info for the sites.

These sites seem to be licensed to an entity called "Montana Interoperability"

Any ideas on what traffic these sites will eventually support? MSP Kalispell is loud and clear on their conventional dispatch channel.

Uh, are you monitoring that from San Antonio? If so, how do you do that?
My son is a part of SAR in Whitefish. I emailed him to see what he's heard about the P25 system. I'll post if he replies anything interesting.

Oh, I see. Well, if you get lost on the slopes, my boy will come dig you out.

P.S. I would have picked May-July. ;-)

don't worry, we'll be here for most of July and August.... it's just too damn hot in San Antonio and it's nice to drink wine and sit on the porch looking at Glacier when it is 65 degrees outside!

Been there/done that.
Wanted to mention a name or two, but my PM attempt was futile; guess you'd get a lot of cr**.

Eventually, it will support all public safety communications statewide. As far as I know, MHP troopers have only moved over to the system in Helena/Butte areas where the system is fully operational.

I am guessing local public safety agencies won't be moving over to the system until after the new Flathead County Consolidated 911 Center is built.

Am I correct in my thinking that their trunked system is not fully operational? Last week I was in the Billings/Roundup/Lewistown areas and heard nothing but convetional channels. Thought my scanner was broken. Someone enlighten me

Yes...you are correct. That area of the state is still in the planning/design phase according to the status map. http://interop.mt.gov/imstatus/IM_Status_Home_Page.htm

As far as I know, only the Helena and Butte areas have moved over to the system and are fully operational.

Lewis and Clark County SO Dispatch is coming in over the Lakeside Tower here in Flathead County (Talkgroup 3).

Interestingly enough, some of the L&C County Units were in encrypted mode, whereas the dispatcher is in the clear.

Warm regards,

My son, a Search Leader in the Flathead SAR, said they gave him a new radio already, which will do decryption when he recieves from the S/O. So, apparently all Flathead LE will be encrypted, too, if they ever start using the new system.

Hello emtbls1987,

I have a home up on Big Mountain that I spend about 3 months out of the year at. Believe it or not, much of the great innovation on this site gets done right up there during Ski season and during the summer!

when I was last out during this winter ski season - I was able to hear 2 sites on the new Montana State network from up on Big Mountain. But, they were two site south of Kalispell... and I was disturbed upon listening that Lewis and Clark SO seems to be totally encrypted.

Also, as of this winter the licensed and planned site for Big Mountain wasn't up and running just yet, but it looks like some additional FCC licenses were just granted this spring up on big mountain and I've heard that the flathead valley is expected to move to the system at some point in the future.

In the mean time, as of this winter, all of Flathead County's public safety were on their respective VHF channels.

I'm arriving in Whitefish sometime late June... we should at least have a drink up at the Snug bar at Kandahar lodge (my brother is the Chef and owner of Cafe Kandahar)

Warm regards,

Outstanding... Big Mountain Fire/Rescue can expect to receive a nice donation from me this year. I live on Moose Run Drive.. I'll keep you advise.. and don't forget to remind me if I forget... I've got a ton of irons in the fire.

Also, if you can - have whomever receives donations for the dept to contact me at lindsay [at] radioreference.com so I can work to arrange the donation this year.

Thanks!

i also worked for Whitefish Mountain Resort Lodging. went around shoveling snow @ the resort rental pool and picked up trash. all over including Moose Run and responded to Emergencies. i Had to run a fire alarm call at Mornining eagle this Feb. by myself that was interesting and fun too.
