Question Someone using voice inversion on 464.5000 mhz in lincoln county

Hi All

Just heard someone on 464.5000 Mhz using voice inversion or scrambler in lincoln county. Checked the FCC site and it's licensed by Knife River Coporation; one of their nationwide frequencies. They are in Lincoln County on the highway construction. At least I think it's them as there are Knife River trucks running around here close to town.

Ok. Found an possible clear voice Knife River Corporation frequency on 464.5500 PL 77.0. This frequency is assigned to them. But not sure if it's them or not as other persons use this frequency.

464.5000 and 464.5500 are very common UHF itinerant frequencies. Off the shelf radios that will work on these frequencies are very easy to find and a lot of people are using them without licenses, or are covered under itinerant use statewide or nationwide.

It could very easily be a contractor passing through or someone that bought them without bothering to get a license.

Not surprising at all. We use both those frequencies at work (we are licensed) and it's VERY common to have all kinds of people pop up on that frequency, contractors, Costco, etc.

A couple of patch cords from your favorite electronics store and you're good to go.

You have to manually switch it on/off for clear/decoding of scrambled audio.

Used to use one in a former location where a couple of agencies used this type and it worked well.

And if you're so inclined, it's a fairly easy kit to test your soldering skills on.

I posted that without trying to draw legal/illegal views. I've had one for years and it has worked well on various instances over the years.

I built the Ramsey kit back in the early 90's; it's a little different from the current version. Still works great. Every now and then I will find some voice inversion usually on illegal 11 meter. Has anyone used the inversion process to get proper speech out of SSB transmission? I'm pretty sure I did that one time when I had my old BFO Philips rig. As I recall the transmission was in a particular sideband and I was able to get good audio with the inversion kit.
