Yes, it will:
First, go to MENU, Then Scan Options (2), Then Trunk(2). Then select the Bank you want to program and press enter.
Then press trunk type(1), Then choose ON, Then select the appropriate system. IE: type 2 800 APCO, type 1, EDACS, ect.. Then choose Trunk Channel(2). Then select the CH number you want to begin with and hit enter. Then enter the Freq. You can alpha tag the channel but It don't matter because it won't show up anyway in trunked mode (If you name the bank).
If you are entering control channel only, enter the freq. and then go to MENU,2,2 select bank and hit enter, then scroll down to Control Channel Only. Now you need to look at your freq's and choose the right PLAN either 1,2,3, or 4. (Page 45 of the manual.)
If not using CC only mode, just simply enter all the freq's and choose OFF for CC only Mode. Of course you can always do all of this Via the software, and make your life much easier!
Now with that being done, now you need to decide whether you want to enter all the talk groups you want to monitor and Scan them, Or If you want to ID search. If you want to ID search, This will stop on ALL active TG's, Press and hold the TRUNK button until "Ready To ID Search" is displayed.
If you only want to scan ID's you have programmed, Press and hold the TRUNK button again, and "Ready To ID Scan" will be displyed. Now the scanner will only stop on ID's you have programmed.

Thanks for the responce. Is the Motorola TypeII smartnet the same as the type 2 800mhz apco25 system? It looks by your instructions that they are set up the same.
I was looking at the information for the Mishawaka Ind public safety on Radio Reference and it shows it as a Motorola Type II smartnet. Is this the same as the astro 3600 and 9600 baud systems?
Since I couldn't find anything in the Bearcat manual that refered to "Smartnet", I wasn't sure how to program the radio.

Motorola Type II Smartnets can be ither all analog, or can come in one of the two digital formats. If your system is not listed as a digital APCO-25, then it is an analog format. If it says it is an ASTRO format then it has digital capabilities. According to the db your system is not a digital system. Now as to the two digital formats. 3600, and 9600. These refer to the baud rate that the cc operates on thus the rate of information being sent. 3600 is the first phase of transition to digital system and supports analog and digital talkgroups. Most trunktrackers can track this type of system and can monitor the analog TG's. As for 9600, this is referred to as "True APCO P-25" as it is a pure digital format. Only the newer generation of digital scanner will track this flavor. BC296D/BC796D, and the PRO-96/PRO-2096 (Upcomming).
As for programming, just program it in as a Motorola Type II. Most scanners do not deferentiate between Smartnet or Smartzone systems. Though with a few, if you do the cc only option you must get the right Plan for its usage.

Yes, as Milf says if you are doing CC only mode it is very important to set the right Plan. Your Plan will be Plan 1. Make sure you enter all control channels.
If you want to monitor digital, you can try to receive one of the SAFE-T Towers. Your county is due to be getting a tower, but it's not online yet.
The towers you might be able to receive are Elkhart, Laporte and Plymouth. You can find info on them here:
http://www.radioreference.com/module...DB&sid=933
I looked at the system as well. Seems there is alot of unid talkgroups and an awful lot of control channels. If you get it up and running see if you can submit some info on the system. You can do this by clicking the "submit changes" button on the top right hand corner of the page!

Thankyou Mif and all. Is Motorola type II and TYPE2/P25 the same thing with reference to the BC296D to copy a Motorola Type II system?
It seems that if I select trunk on, trunk type2/25, I have no option to select any plans.
I guess the longer I play with this thing the sooner I'll understand how to program it.

Yes, it is grouped into one catagory: Type 2/ APCO 25 800. You have to go into the Control Channel Only menu option to be able to select a Plan.
MENU,2,2 select bank and hit enter, then scroll down to Control Channel Only.
