You can only have 16 channels in your scan list... is your list already full, and is that why the radio is not allowing you to add additional channels to your scan list?

And... is your scan list operator selected, or preprogrammed from the RSS not allowing you to change it?

Default List....

If your radio is programmed to allow you to add and delete from the scan list, do the following:

Press and hold the SCANN button. You will see a FAST FLASSHING light on the scan light....(If you DON'T, you aren't set up to be able to add/delete...)

Once the scan light is flashing, use the MODE button to get to the channel you want to add or delete. Then, once you are at a channel you wnat to deal with, press the SEL button and you will see the MON lite either be RED (meaning this is now the PRIORITY channel) or YELLOW meaning it is added to the scan list or no light means it is DELETED from the scan list.

As he says above, you can only place SIXTEEN channels in the scan list.

To get out of the scan setup mode, press scan again.

At least that's how it works on my scan head....See it at the link....

Default MaraTrac scan list

Like most Motorolas of that generation, MaraTracs will scan only 16 channels anyway. Control head type and programming actually determine that figure. Which control head does it have? There are basically three types. That determines the basic procedure to add or delete channels in the scan list.

From your post, I get the impression that you are able to access and add and delete channels. That would mean that User Scan Programming was chosen in the RSS and Mode Slaved Scan was not, but just in case, I'll go into some more details.

To be able to add or delete channels in the scan list from the control head, Operator Select must be chosen in the RSS for Non-Priority channels. To be able to select the Priority channel, either Selected Channel or Operator Select must be chosen.

Selected Channel Priority means that whatever channel selected by the Mode button will be the Priority channel during scan. Operator Select means you can set a Priority channel that isn't affected by what channel you select with the Mode button.

Hand held control heads and A7 Advanced Control Heads can access 99 channels and will allow 16 channels in the scan list. Clamshell heads (rotary knob type) will vary as to what you can do and are limited in the number of channels accessed.

Altering the scan list:
If it's an A7 and it's scanning, short press the SCAN button to stop scanning, then press and hold SCAN until the radio beeps and the Scan light starts to blink rapidly to tell you that you're in Scan Programming Mode. A channel number will show in the display, and the Scan Status (Priority or Non-Priority) light on the right side of the display window will indicate which scan status the displayed channel has (Priority, Non-Priority, none).

Press the RCL (RECALL) button repeatedly to scroll through the scan list and see whats already in the list. At this point, whether you can add or delete a channel will depend on what scan parameters were selected in the programming process.

From here we'll need to know if it has user programming enabled, whether it is set up for Operator Selected Priority and Operator Selected Non-priority, or Selected Channel Priority. That will determine the actual keystrokes needed to alter the scan list.

Anyway, if it's Operator Selected or Selected Channel Priority, the method of adding and deleting are the same.

Once in the Scan Program Mode, you can delete any channel displayed as being in the Scan List by pressing SEL (Select) until the Status lights aren't lit, or you can add a channel by pressing the Mode button until you come to the channel you want to add and then pressing SEL.

If you chose Selected Channel Priority in the RSS, a Non-Priority channel is all you can select to put in the scan list because the Priority is set by whatever channel you have selected with the Mode button.

If you chose Operator Select for Priority in the RSS, then a second momentary press of SEL will bump the channel's status from Non-Priority to Priority. A third press will delete the channel from the list.

To leave Scan Program Mode, momentarily press the SCAN or HOME button.

Hope some of this helps.
