it sounds like you may be using an aftermarket battery some of which have
battery contact issues. some of these manufactures claim they make an
identical battery case and contacts but it ain't so.
try this - try using clip leads from a known good power source. if i recall correctly
i think these batteries are 9.6V so by observing the proper polarity try using clip
leads and connect from the mt1000 contacts to a know good 9.6V power source
and see if the radio will power up. if not the radio has an internal problem - perhaps
a blown pico fuse which i think is on the bottom near the battery rail or contacts.
