Cps Licensing

Hello I have been doing my own programming for quiet some time now also have worked on some of my depts. Radios what I wanted to know is what I have to do so I can legally have a copy of cps and program my fire depts. Radios they are all Motorola’s. And we do have all the fcc licenses for the freq.

Your department or company has had to sign an licensing agreement with Motorola in order to receive the CPS program. Motorola doesn't care if you have licenses on the radio channels. The license only talks about the relationship between your company and Motorola, and what you can and can't do with the software. You should be able to contact Motorola at 1 800 422 4210 and talk with customer service. They will look up your Motorola account, and from this, they can see your software subscriptions. If you have a Motorola on line account, you can do this yourself. On MOL, you can review your software subscriptions plus look at your license.

It's very easy. Just create an account here: http://businessonline.motorola.com . Then Call Customer Service and ask them to add CPS to your account. You will be able to buy it online and a few of them you can download instantly - others you will need to wait for the CD.

The software runs between $200-350 with 3 years of updates included.

after i have the licencing for the software then it will be completely leagle for me to program my fire departments radios

No. There are other requirements for programming in the frequencies. You will legaly be able to use the software to program radios as far as Motorola is concerned, but you'll have to follow the requirements for the FCC license for the station that you are programming. If the frequency was licensed through your state/county/city, then you'll have to go through them to get permission.

Each license has a set number of base/mobile radios. If you add radios and go above what the license indicates, then you are not legal and could risk losing the license. I'm sure that whoever coordinated the license would be pretty upset if they lost their license or got fined due to someone programming/adding radios.
