Default Motorola Public Saftey Mic

I just picked up off ebay a PSM (NMN6228C) for my MTS2000. Can I leave the antenna on the radio instead of putting it on the mic? and for those who are wondering why i bothered buying the mic if I wanted to keep the antenna on the radio, the reason is that it was cheaper, I paid 20 bucks and I like have the volume HI/Lo switch.

If I remember right the MTS radios have the antenna switch in them so when you put the mic on the radio it switchs the antenna to the one on the mic. If that is right you could just get rid of the little thing that pushes in the switch and you would be using the antenna on the radio

As the prior poster said, You'll need to put an antenna on the mic itself. My MTS2000 will go out of range on it's trunked system as soon as you hook up the antenna-less public safety mic.

I purchased one long ago new and it came with a cap installed on the PSM. Not sure how it's used as I never used the PSM myself.

I only used the PSM a few times myself. I would just put that cap on the radio, and use the antenna from the radio (stubby UHF) on the Mic.

It's a metal threaded cap with a flat-blade slit on the top. I may be confusing it with what came with an XTS PSM.

Ok, I think the ones that came with the Jedi Series was a red cap that fit snugly over the antenna jack..Thats what I remember seeing on a Jedi Radio that came in for programming once when I worked at the shop that had a PSM on it.
