Exclamation Motorola system question...

If I am using a VHF portable to monitor a frequency in the 154-100 range which is a VHF fire dispatch simulcast channel to P25 system and im using the "PL" tone as well with that am I traceable? By traceable I mean am I visible on the system? I have not transmitted on the channel yet.

Simulcast...Hmmmm....Have the portable programmed for receive only and you should be good to go.
Just don't transmit on a department freq you are not authorized to be on..

Let me get this strait.

You are LISTENING to a VHF conventional channel (Non-trunked) and it is P25 or it is analog and carries traffic simulcast from a P25 system?

If it is conventional and you are set to RX only then you are fine.

If I am confused and it is a trunked system you are listening to, then it depends on the programming.

First, I have the authority to transmit on the channel for emergency use only (Mutual Aid Dept.)

Re-wording my question, I guess im asking what my "ID" is upon TX, since I see no way of changing that...

Its an 800mhz type II P25, simulcasting the fire disp. channel to VHF non P25.

Thanks

I have the authority, I meant what is my radio "TRACE ID" upon TX, such as "LADDER900 Portable 3" or something to the sorts.

What model radio, and what format ID do they use on the VHF system?

I know most radios can be set to ID or not per channel, but I don't know if they can be set to different IDs per channel.
I would bet some model has that capability.

From what I read, if you are on a VHF portable where it is being simulcasted on a P25 system, in a word, no you won't show up with an ID #. An ID on a P25 will show up, but your VHF won't, unless you have a MDC (if motorola) that "squawks" when you key up. On the dispatch console, it will just show up blank.

I think it will show up with the ID the VHF system is programmed with. Since it is a simulcast or multicast system your radio won't have a unique ID on the trunked system therefore whoever transmits on the VHF channel will have the same radio ID on the trunked system. If your radio does MDC 1200 or DTMF and the P25 system supports it then it will show up.
