I bought a GP340 and this thing has taken a huge amount of careless abuse already and still works 100%:
Sliding off my visor on to the road going roughly 35 MPH and falling off the roof of my vehicle going roughly 60 MPH and hitting another vehicle and then the road.
It's definitely genuine and well made. Mine came with the RIB less programming cable and cps but some do not come with anything other than the radio, antenna, battery, and charger. Just make sure it includes those two parts, the CPS and Programming wire.

Yes, they are ok to buy as long as you aren't looking for the Ouickcall feature. The GP380 also comes with more channels than the HT1250 (128) vs GP380 (255), but the GP380 is zoned so you have to rotate the little nob on the top to find the channel you want. They are a legit radio though and DOES work in the US, despite what another thread says because I have used my GP340 a lot already and has only had one complaint and that was that there was a funny sound when I keyed up and that was programming error upon my part.
I got my GP340 from g8hkshop on eBay:

Ok i thought the 380 supports both the Quickcall and 5-tone signalling, the only thing it leaves out is the MDC1200.

As far as I know, the GP380, or any of the overseas GP series supports Quickcall.

Why buy a used radio when you can buy new and get 2 years warrenty. I'm using the HYT-780 256ch, ect. for @$250.

I'm sorry, that was a my brain moving faster than my brain.
NONE of the GP series, or the overseas HT series, supports Quickcall.

C138Kaysone, I have personally bought off of the dealer mentioned above and got the radio very quickly. He is an excellent seller. I'm not trying to promote him, but I have only dealt with him.
I don't know if Slipnutz15 looks in this section of the forum, but he can vouch for the fact that you don't get a box with basically a door stop in it, you get a reliable portable. He can probably tell you the abuse I have put this through (from my visor, out the window, to the road at 35 MPH and off the top of my roof, hitting a car, then hitting the road at roughly 45/50 MPH).

Maybe I'm mising something. I've read the threads on this radio. Where does one buy the software and cable to program the radio? And how much does it cost? I'm considering buying one myself after reading these posts.
Thx!!

Some of the ebay sellers are adding in the programming software and cable with it.

Howdy Y'all. I purchased a GP380 from ebay. It came from a HK seller. If it is a fake, it is a real good one. Kudos to the counterfitters. It came with the software and a ribless programming cable. Anyhow, I have programmed it with 16 channels with no problems. My question is "Does anyone know how to program this thing with the 255 channels advertised?" I'll be hornswaggled if I can figure it out. I have searched around and haven't found any info anywhere on how to do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am using the radio for Fire, EMS, Emergency Management and Amateur and I need a bunch more channels to make it interesting. Thanks!

adding channels to the radio
to add channels to the radio.....when you are programming the freqs and the PL tones....on the bottom of that window there is a green plus marker...just press this button and it will add all the channels you could want

GP380 will not take pager tones. That is the same as quick call II

Unless you are planning on using it on HAM frequencies (Part 97), getting one would be pointless. It isn't type accepted by the FCC for use under Part 90 or 95. There is a reason those radios are aimed at the Asia market.
