• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have some APX7000's and XTL5000 (O3 HHCH) radios I am programming. For the most part I am doing fine but I have one issue I can't seem to wrap my knuckles around. Our systems use coordinated MDC ID's, with our car numbers as "Cxxx) and portable radios using the star and unit numbers of the officers. This eliminates the need for aliasing, and with several hundred radios over many channels it makes life simple for assigning MDC ID's.

While I could set up MDC Call Lists and assign alias's for decoded MDC codes, this limits me to 50 (or is it 100?) ID's, when it would be better and easier to have just the raw MDC ID be displayed on the radio. Our CDM1250 and HT1250 radios do this just fine, but I can't seem to figure out how to do it on the XTL's and APX's. I imagine I will have the same issue with XTS's that are inevitable in my future.

I am using v3 of the APX and v14 of the Astro RSS.

It really isn't that hard. However, you need to make sure the XTL is set up for MDC. Do this by looking in the "RADIO INFORMATION" selection and then selecting the "FEATURE SET" tab. You should see option G114 - Enhanced Digital ID Display. No option G114, no workie.

Next step is to go into the personality that you want to use. There is a tab there called "SIGNALING". In there you have to set the Signaling Type to MDC. Then in the next tab, "MDC" put a check mark in the Selective Call Decode.

Last place to go is the "CONTROLS" selection. Click on the Display and Menu tab. On the PTT ID tab, check the ID Display and Scan ID Display.

That should do you. Works slick on all the radios I have activated it on.

OK, well that explains it. No G114 here, I guess I will have to see about getting it flashed with that.

Thanks!

Rich,

If you have CPS and the correct cables, you can do the upgrade yourself. Just call the Motorola Online support number, and they will send you an iButton that is used to perform the upgrade. Should cost about $75.

Be careful, though, each upgrade is restricted to a single serial number.
