Default Cm300

I am trying to program CM300, I have CPS 05.12 and ribless cable 4081C (ethernet to 25 pin)
It consistently says it can not read the radio. Com Port is correct, I also tried the cable to through a RIB box. I have tried multiple radios with the same result. I used my WinXP VM then loaded into a OLD Win98 PC. any ideas?

the CM does not use the same pinout as the CDM/GM/M series, goto batlabs.com and look at the radio specific section for the pin out. if you can't recrimp the connector, use a RJ45 jack, and cut an ethernet patch cable. then plug your programming cable to teh jack, and wire the patch cable for the new pinout, this is actually what M does for their programming/flash adapter for the CM.

I am sorry, I don't understand why the reference to the cdm/gm series? Do I have cable or cps geared towards that radio?

What he is saying is that the CM/PM series radio requires a programming/flash adapter (FKN8096A) or equivalent to program them. You can use the same cable that programs the GM/CDM/M1225 but you must use the adapter, or modify your current cable by jumping a couple of the pins.

I as well will be programming one of these. Im looking on ebay under CM300 and the same cable shows up for a M1225. So, the question remains. Will the cable for an M1225 work on CM300?? And vice versa. I already have a cable for the M1225, will I need one specifically for the CM300 or could I just use the ethernet jack and patch cable with a different pinout?

Read this thread carefully and completely:

Motorola PM400 Programming Problem

The CM300 and the PM400 are the same for programming purposes. Buy or build the adapter as discussed in the thread.

Motorola does not make a one piece cable that will program a CM radio.
You have to either buy a second cable from Moto called a flash adapter, or make your own. Either one goes in series with the programming cable.

A few of us have scratched our heads about this at first.
The cable that Moto says will program this radio is NOT the only cable you need.
I'm not at work, or I could give you the pertinant part numbers.

If you look closely, you'll notice the CM300's mike jack is 8 pin.
The mike jack for a M1225, GM300, CDM750, 1250, etc, and the cable you have, are all ten pin.
Hence, some adaption is in order.

Actually not the case. The CDM's and many of the older Radius's and M1225's are all wired the same at the mic connector for pins 1 thru 8. The Radius's and M1225 are 8 pin RJ45 mic connectors. The CDM's are RJ50's and pins 9 & 10 are different, but Motorola furnishes the same 8 pin desk mic for all of them now. I talked to their Engineering about that to confirm it.

The PM400's and the CM200/300 series are different on pins 1 & 3 for programming and other things. Hence the need for the adapter to jumper 1 & 3 to put the radio into programming mode.

RKN4081C is the Motorola part number for the ribless serial cable that will program the CDM series, most Radius series, and the M1225. It is an 8 pin RJ45 which fits in the mic connector of all of these radios.

The FKN8096B Flash Adapter is needed to adapt the RKN4081C to program the CM200/300 and PM400 radios which are the Commercial Series of radios. It does this by simply jumpering pins 1 & 3 together to force the radio into programming mode.

The flash adapter will also work with aftermarket USB cables on the Commercial Series.

As I said in the other thread, I made up my own Commercial Series adapter from a CAT-5 cable and an RJ45 surface mount wall jack. It works just fine.

So, in other words. Il need another cable specifically for the CM. or can I use my current cable from M1225 and add a jumper wire on pins 1 and 3? I know this might be a repetitive question but still not sure...

I just answered your question in another post.

While I am not a moderator, redundant questions get tedious real fast.
(That is a hint on forum protocol and etiquette if you have not figured that out.)
