    To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have purchased an MCS2000 for 900 mhz amateur. The radio programes ok but I cannot get the receiver to work on PL/DPL. The receiver is CSQ only. I have programmed both transmit and receive for DPL/PL. The radio is set up for trunk mount so wondering if there is a hangup that enables/disables the DPL/PL on receive?

Thanks;
David

Is the mic off hook when you're trying this? Their is a setting in the CPS to determine if it goes into CSQ when the mic is off hook.

Motorola MCS2000 900

I don't have a mic hangup with the radio. Can you tell me where in the software to set it for it is always in PL or DPL? Looked but must be missing the parameter to set.

Thanks;
David

In convential configuration under the general tab uncheck the HUB Defeats PL box. That should do it.

Go into CPS, open conventional tab. Click on conventional configuration. Uncheck box marked HUB defeats PL.

Can someone tell me the location to add the mic hangup to the MCS2000? Is it just wired in the mic or are there wiring in the cable for a hangup box?

Thanks;
David

What version of software are you programming with, and did you have to do any modifications to get it to program into the ham band?

I have seen some cases where the software causes the radio to operate in carrier squelch only. In the cases I'm familiar with, the radio was programmed with modified software, then the codeplug was read, and rewritten to the radio with unmodified software. All sorts of weirdness resulted, especially with PL/DPL operation.

Just for informational purposes, I've been using modified CPS R02.02.00 and am not seeing this issue with my model II rig on 900MHz. The 900 rig has only been programmed with this modified software since I've owned it. I agree something abnormal is going on if the personalities are configured for PL for TX/RX and the Hub defeats PL is unchecked.

I am using CPS R02.02.00 and the exe file has been modified to program the ham frequencies. The exec file has been used by others to program their MCS2000s with no issues. If for some issue the codeplug data was uploaded to the radio using a non modified exec file what would be the best way to clear the codeplug and start over with the modified exec file?

I did reload the old codeplug and made changes for the ham repeaters. Tested the PL decode and it is now working. Some how the codeplug got corrupted. Good reason the keep a backup of the original codeplug.

Thanks guys.

I knew it was something weird. Have fun with the rig on 900MHz. I think these are the best bet going on 900 currently.

No not really.. I had a friend who had a few and ended up selling them because they wouldn't work correctly in the ham band. We have been messing around with kenwood 931's that have had the filters changed and they perform flawlessly.

Problem with most of the 900 stuff that is Motorola, Some might work, some might not, I have experienced this with the GTX mobiles and portables, and even the MTX9250. My 9250 works fine on both 11 and 25 split repeaters along with my gtx mobile but I have come across some others that wont.

In my experience, the GTX seems to work great right out of the box, but the radio is feature poor. I have a 900 Spectra, but the audio seems muddy. Maybe the Hear Clear is on for all freq's. I asked the seller to make sure Hear Clear is only on ch 2. I don't have the ability to check that. Now the MCS is a great radio, feature rich, & I'm able to set it to work the way I want, unlike my Spectra. Right out of the box both of my MCS's work great on 902/927. GARY N4KVE
