Default CDM1250 Programming

I'm stumped. I'm attempting to reprogram a number of CDM1250's and can't get my computer to read the data from the radio. It keeps giving me the error to check that the rib box and radio are on, etc.

I'm using CPS 06.12.02 with a serial to rib box connection. I've tried on a couple different computers and none of them seem to work.

Is there a programming mode the radios need to be in? The rib box is rly-4008b.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

No, the radios don't need to be put in a programming mode. If your RIB, cable and serial port are all working correctly, it should work

I'm thinking you meant to type RLN-4008b?

I'd suggest making sure the RIB is plugged in using the wall wart, or at least you have a new battery in there. Just because the red LED next to the power switch comes on doesn't mean the battery has enough juice to work.

You didn't mention how you are interfacing the RIB to your PC? That could be an issue also. Some information on your PC would help as well.

Some USB to serial converters will work, some don't. Sometimes you can try adjusting the buffers for the port using the Control Panel/System stuff. I've had to adjust this on some machines to get it to talk correctly.

The other thing to make sure of is that you selected the correct COM port before telling the software to read or write. I'm really tired, and the location is escaping me, but you might need to search around.

The DB 25 has given me more issues over the years than any other part. Also when in doubt change the battery. Helps to cover every angle.

Are you using a true serial port or a USB to Serial convertor?
What version of Windows are you using?
What 'CPS' are you using?

I think the rib and some of the cables at least work. I attempted to read an HT-750, and that worked fine. When I hook the same rib to the CDM-1250, it's a no go.

Other threads mentioned the battery, so I went out and bought a new Duracell today. I'm not sure if we have a wall power cable.

I'm running a serial cable from the PC to the rib. With the PC running Windows Vista Business. I haven't messed with the Comm Port buffer settings, other than restoring them to the default 9600 (I believe that is what default was).

I've also gone to file> read radio and selected all available comm ports.

I'm really not sure what else to do.

Yes true serial port, on 3 different computers. Windows Vista on 2 computers and Windows 98 on 1 computer with CPS 06.12.02.

1. Run with Xp.
2. Check battery inside Rib box.
3. Serial com port cable.
