Means the VCO isn't locking on the freq you are on. We're you attempting to program a frequency not with in its band limits?

Do you know the source of this radio? What is the model number and what is the frequency of the radio? Firmware/flashcode?

What band is it, and what freq where you attempting to narrowband?

Also you can hit the home button 5 times on power up and it will display the other information.

VHF. Narrow banding the entire radio channels between 151-158. Like I said though it all worked until I replaced the antenna.

K split, 146-174MHz.

Using for ham? Only thing that comes to mind is that it may not like narrow band below 146 if that's what you are trying to do. Then again narrowband is not needed on 2 meter ham band. Stange why it would fail after a simple antenna change. You're sure it worked ok after narrowbanding it? Did you try the codeplug you had prior to narrowbanding it to see if you get the same error. Sanity check so to say. Perhaps you've had a sudden hardware failure of some sort. These radios are getting old now, it happens.

Using it for fire department use. And yes it worked before the antenna switch. Everything took nicely. When I get home ill check the code plug. And see if I see anything different. And try to put the old code plug in to see what happens.

The antenna was in bad shape and it had better days. Just left the mount in place and changed out the antenna.

FAIL001 is VCO failure. Maybe programmed for out of range freqs.

That was already answered above, but its actually VCO out of lock. In addition, the software won't allow out of range freq (last version I had) and his 15x.x range is within the allowable range of both VHF splits offered on the radio.

The antenna will have nothing to do with it and its just a conincidence. Without seeing your codeplug (and I am sure there is nothing wrong with it as long as you just changed 25k to 12.5k), I am going to say you need to bring your radio to the local shop and have it PM'd.

My guess is that it just needs a good alignment and to be sure that its running current firmware - which you may or may not be able to get as the MCS is NLS from Motorola and Motorola has had a habit lately of not providing software updates or even allow you to purchase FLASHport upgrades on NLS products (which is complete BS, but thats another thread). Some of the early firmware was buggy and did things like reboot the radio randomly, not allow it to turn on here and there etc.

Now what I forgot to ask, are you getting the Fail 001 on RX or when you PTT?
