CPS Runs but Won't Read
I've got an old Pentium III computer that I installed both XP and the XTS3000 CPS on, and I could read/write to my XTS3000 just fine. I know the CPS works, I know the cable works, and I know the radio works.
Now, instead of hopping between my PIII and my newer machine, I decided to install the CPS on my newer machine and buy a serial card. The CPS runs and I can modify my codeplug, but I can't read the radio on this machine which is running Windows 7. I've checked to make sure both serial ports on the card are set to COM1 and COM2 with no conflicts, and I've tried reading from both COM1 and COM2 from the software. (Radio plugged in to either one and on, and I've tried both ports.) I've even set them to COM256/255 just to make sure there's no invisible conflicts.
So short and sweet question: Is the CPS unfriendly enough that it won't read my radio on Win7 (but it will still run and create/modify a codeplug), or is it a problem with my serial card?
OS is Win7 Home Premium x64.
Granted, I could use the PIII computer, but the more I can move away from it, the less I have to lose when it dies. Right now it's my only venue to program my MT1000 radios, but that's a story for another day.

CPS will not run on Win7. All of my programming over the years I've used Win98 and some will take Xp.
But hopefully, someone on here can help you out.....Thanks.

I'm saying it does run, it just won't recognize the radio.

I gave up trying to run CPS properly on my Vista desktop. I bought a cheap, off-lease IBM Thinkpad T60 with Windows XP Pro on eBay for all my programming and it works great. The docking station has a DB-9 and a bunch of other ports on it.

I don't think CPS will run correctly on 64-bit computers either.

It will work fine with 32 bit 7 if installed in XP compatability mode but it won't work at all with 64 bit.

So as I understand it then, it's a futile attempt to get it to interface with the radio correctly on 7 x64. It works for modifying codeplugs in my case, just not reading or writing to the radio.
Welp, I'll go and return that serial card then because I have absolutely no other use for it.

Pretty much every programmer I know has to maintain a fleet of computers for exactly this reason. Almost every problem you see on these or other message boards in some way relates to a person using home brew cables or home brew rib with DOS in XP or some other such thing.
I would recomend just keeping an old laptop around for radio programming. Old laptops are cheap so you can have several for parts and if you are really hard core you can even use a hard drive cloning station to duplicate software that you have no way of replacing.
Real computer + real CPS (or RSS) + Real programming cable + real RIB = 99.999% trouble free operation

Latest CPS for Waris (EMEA) is ENVN4005Z CPS R03.11.16_EN (ENLN4115U 07.Jan.2012) makes it possible to use it with Win7 64bit without any problems with a USB adapter serial <=> USB. This program includes the drv (commsbepx64 ) that makes it possible.

Yes, but the Waris radios are still current production and thus still supported. The old Astro stuff are no longer manufactured nor supported so we're stuck with the latest version and its limitations.

Astro and Astro Spectra will run in Win7 Ultimate 64 bit with the XP virtual environment, but you will be much happier if you have a physical serial port on your Win 7 machine, since that is what the Spectra software expects to see. A serial port, RIB and appropriate factory cable.
When you are getting so far out of support parameters, make sure you are using factory cables and factory RIBS, or unpredictable results will occur.
