Default Commander II mic (RMN5089B)

Can the programmable buttons on this mic be programmed for zone change in lieu of using the front keypad?

I have an xts5000 that the keypad is dead , and do not want to drop 700 bucks for repair. Everything else works.

And how do you program those buttons on the mic. Is it something that has to be done in the CPS or is there a " learning" way to do it for the field user .

the side buttons follow what the side buttons on the radio do. Since when is it 700 to fix a keypad.. YOu can buy new ones on Ebay for less than $100 and replace it yourself

Could be a simple fix. If you feel comfortable opening the radio up you might find that the Keypad flex plug has come loose. Plug it back in and your keypad might work again. I have had XTS5Ks come into my shop before with the keypad not working and the only issue was the Flex had come unplugged. Plug it back in and back in service.

No soldering in replacing a keypad whatsoever...just plug and play.

Well hopefully their normal programmer is able to figure it out when he gets back in and takes a look at it ....
