The help section of the CPS disc has videos that will walk you through the whole programming setup. If you don't have the disc, you can still use the help files, you just won't have access to the videos.

Are you licensed for 800 MHz? If not you should sell it and get yourself some license free VHF MURS radios that don't require end user progamming.

Yeah, only if you're licensed for some specific 800 MHz channels (It's mainly just public safety on that band). It doesn't sound like you are so we're courteously trying to steer you in the right direction. May I ask who told you that?

Ah, well in that case, does the rest of the FD use XTS3000s? If they do perhaps you can get the radio shop to help you. There are tutorials in the help files that should give you a good idea of how to program (to whatever your department is licensed for, of course!).

I don't usually get in on this type of tread, but 800 is a bad band to be talking on if you are not licensed to do so. PLEASE STOP BEFORE IT TOO LATE........ You can go to jail for this !

just my 2 cents

Yes the department uses xts3000 and xts5000 and I wont go to jail because I am not talking on a trunk system that they use I will just be talking on a conventional system.

Default Xts3000 800mhz programming channels into Radio. Help

Well if Fire Chief Nick says its ok to transmit on a conventional system without a proper licence than by all means go for it.

Just remember to tell that to the FCC Agent that knocks on your door.

I think you need to help us help you. There are several people here that are trying to help you, and the information you are providing is no where near sufficient for anyone to do anything with. I understand that you want to make these two radios talk, but there is a lot more to it than just some simple programming. If you have not done this before, this is NOT the place to learn how to do it. If your employer has a conventional radio system, then they will have a shop that maintains it. Unless you have the specific information for the radio system, you will not be able to just program in some random information and have it work correctly, or at all.
If you want to use these radios in simplex mode (radio to radio), you still need a valid license and you will need to know the frequencies that the license allows you to use.
Trunked system or not, unless you have authorization from the agency the license is issued to (they will not license an individual on a public safety frequency, no matter what the chief tells you), then you cannot use your radio on the system. Technically the FCC requires you to have written authorization.

There are NO license free frequencies that you can use as an individual. If you are looking for two hand held radios to use to talk back and forth, 800MHz is not the place to do it. The public safety frequencies are controlled by a regional coordinator and enforced by the FCC. If you pop up on someones frequency without authorization you will get fined A LOT of money, as in thousands of dollars, and your equipment will get confiscated. You can even go to jail.
The non-public safety frequencies in the 800MHz band are often systems that rent services out to different companies. Again, popping up on one of those is not going to be conducive to your freedom.

I'm not trying to scold you, only trying to help you understand that there are some very specific requirements. Simply owning a radio and the programming software is not sufficient authorization.

If you are looking for a pair of quality two way radios, then we can help you with that, and likely save you a lot of money, trouble, headache and legal issues.
Really, we do want to help you, but you need to provide some honest information to us before we can do that.
