Default Motorola NNTN7034A battery question

I'm thinking about using a Motorola IMPRES NNTN7034A 4200mAh Li-ion battery to power my PSR-800 and PSR-500 scanners adding appropriate (5V and 6V) voltage regulation for each radio.

The Motorola (transceiver side) battery connector has three contacts. The side contacts meter 7.59V. Anybody know the purpose of the center contact?

Do you know what it senses? Or can you point me to a link that describes what you refer to?

Thumbs up

Personally, I would stick to what the radio is designed to use.
...just saying.

The center contact on the radio side of the battery is the radio's 'sense' contact. The radio can sense an impress battery and give a status.
The contacts on the back of the radio battery that the charger connects to. These contacts provide sensing for most battery charger control of the charging cycle. The impress battery has a data communications on one of the pins so the impress charger knows what the condition of the battery is.. I am NOT impressed..

Ok, I think I get it. Radio gets battery status from battery via center pin, radio can somehow advise user of battery status.

I don't need to use the center contact for my POTS (IMPRES) battery application. Thanks.

Seems like your not enamored with IMPRES.
