Default Programming PM400 error 514

hey guys, got another question. ive read through all the posts concerning programming a pm400 radio. i have the correct and most up to date software for cps and the correct ribless cable for the pm400. i also checked an redownloaded my prolific drivers. i am STILL getting the error 514 (cannot read the radio, make sure its turned on etc) what else could be my problem?? i have programmed this same radio before with this same cable, so i know this cannot be the issue. although i am using a different computer, its the same software. any help would be appreciated, i know im over looking something!

What computer OS are you running? Also how do you plug in your radio. I plug in the USB cable first to the computer. Then turn on the radio then plug the cable into the radio. For some odd reason if I plug in the cable first to the radio and turn it on with the cable in it will not work.

Agree, I've seen the same with CP200's here. Here's my sequence:

1. Plug the USB cable into the PC.
2. Fire up the CPS.
3. Turn on the radio.
4. Plug the cable into the radio.

I've also found that if you click Edit, then Preferences, and then set your Comm Port when you first fire up the CPS, you may avoid this error. Don't click Cancel, click OK. For some reason, sometimes the CPS knows your comm port and sometimes it needs to be pointed at it. It may sound trivial, but it prevents a lot of frustration.
