Default couple JT1000 questions..

Hi Guys. What is "scan program" on a JT1000? Its what the screen reads when the ABC switch is in the C position. Also, when scanning,(when ABC switch is in A position) it beeps every time a channel becomes active. Is there a way to stop this beep? Also, same question with the keypad beep... I understand i may need to take them to a shop to get the beeps deactivated, Im just wondering if this is even possible? Also, while scanning, sometimes it gives a horrible squelch tail. only when scanning though. any advice on that?

Scan Program allows you to "tag" channels to put them in the scan list. One of the other buttons should "tag" the channel.

Beep when the scan stops on a channel is likely the priority scan channel tone. It can be shut off in programming under the SCAN info page.

Keypad beep should be able to be shut off. Usually there is a check box as well as a volume set/offset setting in software.

So, you would need the programming cable and the JT1000 programming software. Or in your case, sounds like you need a trip to the shop...

Here's the user guide, in case you don't already have it: http://www.repeater-builder.com/moto.../jt1000-ug.pdf

Quickly, when in scan program, you press whichever button is programmed as scan program enter and look at the top LED for each press: green = non-priority in list, red = priority in list and off = not in list.

it should be able to scan all 16. Sounds like someone set up the scan list in the RSS.... You really need to get someone to look at with the software and get it set the way you want it.

Just dig into the manual whose reference KG4INW posted. All the info you need is there, especially starting on page 16.

it does scan all 16, now that i learned how to program it from reading the above posts. I think ill try to find a shop in my area to at least get a quote. Im not prepared to invest TOO much more in to them. Any guesses at what i could expect to spend for something like this?

Default couple JT1000 questions..

With a software mod, they can be programmed via front panel or you could try to find a programming dongle. But for the advanced options, you would still need someone with the RSS

Alot of shops that service Motorola have gotten rid of their older RSS programs so you may have trouble finding a shop that will work on it. But since its a Jedi series radio and there are alot still in service you at least have a shot. Some shops will charge you a flat rate or at minimum an hour labor. Its a crap shoot there.

The radios came that way, cavmedic Thanks again for the input guys. Thanks to all your help, I also figured out how to turn the scan beep off; it only beeps on priority channels, so disabling the "priority" fixed that. Now the only 2 things i would change on this radio are the keypad beep, and the low battery beep, but i dont think those will bother me enough to spend money.

And thank you Steve. You may have saved me a thread in the nebraska section!

We work on Jedi radios out here. Programming, alignment and repair.

Just a note: the RSS only runs in DOS, not in or near windows. The last RSS for Jedi does run on faster Pentium processors.

Not a problem, good luck. That Jedi product is great. I work on MTS2000's and I am impressed by their durability.

I came up with another question.. When you go into "test mode" on this radio, the 2 buttons right above the transmit button are the only 2 buttons that seem to work. If you press the lower button, it beeps twice, if you press it again, it beeps 3 times; and so on until 6 beeps. Its like it has 6 different settings. and the button right above it does the same thing, except it only has "options" 1, 3, and 4
Any idea what these settings do?

edit: nevermind. some reading in the owners manual answered my question perfectly

It's pretty detailed and there's quite a bit you can do in the test mode. Here's the service manual (pg 7 has what you're looking for): http://www.repeater-builder.com/moto...ice-manual.pdf
