Default Uniden bct-12

Hi All,

This being my first post and new to trunking i'm amazed by this website Most of what you guys know is greek to me at this point so i humbly ask.. I'm in oklahoma and considering purchasing a uniden bct-12 beartracker for alerting me if i'm close to a cop on the highway. And was wondering if anyone had any experience with one of these and how they liked it? On a side notes its no longer in production and i haven't found a similar product on the market from another company so that makes me wonder if some legal pressure stopped this type of product? Thanks in advance for any info!

Dan.

Default sorry for bringing this topic back from the dead, but...

I'm interested in this unit, too. Not for the "alerting" feature, but simply because it is ultra compact and stylish, and won't look all HamSexy in my new 2004 truck.

I want to monitor the Virginia State PD and local PD/Fire (all on VHF analog), so I don't think it should be a problem. Any comments?

Uniden BCT-8 is the current model in production that includes the Beartracker Warning System.

Yeah, that looks like a nice radio, too... however, I could care less about the Bearcat warning system or whatever it is. First thing I'd do with any radio is turn that off, wouldn't really trust it... typically, the trooper has to have his portable radio OUT of the charger for the repeater to work - and this is usually not the case. Marketing gimic if you ask me.

The problem with beartracker (which basically monitors the input and extender freq's being used nationwide) is that it only works when the trooper has the extender on, and someone is talking on the radio at the time... usually what you would hear on that channel at that moment is the trooper calling out your speed to the unit parked 1/4 mile up the road....
