Default flashing red led?

I just bought a used ht-1250. I programmed it using the same codeplug as on several others. It appears to xmit ok but it does not receive. When in rcv mode the led on top flashes red. It is not the LS version so I don't think it is in trunking mode. And I can find no reference to the flashing red led light in the older ht-1250 manual.

Software ver: 5.14.03
radio ver: r02.00.01
model is 2AN

Flashing red simply means it is receiving. If you're not hearing anything, your PL or DPL is either wrong or not supposed to be there (if you're on a carrier squelch channel). If you have a monitor button programmed (always a good idea) hit it and you'll probably hear the traffic.

If none of that works, then there may be something else wrong but I'm confident it's a tone issue.

I don't think you can just dump a codeplug from one radio into another. Are you sure everything went ok with that? I can't remember if there is a cloning option for these or not but the radios would have to be the exact model number for it to work if there is a cloning option.

You are pretty much correct. There really is not a cloning button or menu choice in the Professional Series CPS, but you can shoot the same code plug into multiple radios of the same model number.

However, I did find another quirk over the weekend. If the code plugs don't have the same (or nearly the same) revision level, you might not be able to shoot a code plug from a newer radio into an older one or vice versa even though the model numbers are the same. Doesn't brick the radio or anything, just gives an error message and stops.

Perhaps I am not using the correct phrase because these commercial radios are new to me. We have been programming our radios for a couple years, old HT-1000s, XTS2500, etc, but we just got into HT-1250s about 6 months ago. We developed the channel lineup, pl tones, button assignments, etc and used it to program 6 factory refurbed radios, all went well and we are using them. Then we bought 3 used ht-1250 radios and used the same saved file to program those radios. This one radio seemed to have programmed correctly, all the channels etc are there but the led on top flashes red and no matter what channel we try to xmit to it, no joy, even channels that are simplex and have no pl tones. It xmits ok, just seems to be waiting for something to open the squelch to rcv a signal.

Another question - one of the used radios has a four position channel selector button on top. The decal around the button has 16 white dots but the switch will only mechanically rotate thru 4 positions. The front and side buttons seem to work ok.

Someone should have warned me and told me that this commercial stuff is a lot harder than the amateur radios!!!!!

Thanks for all your help
Fred

Remember the rule: Always READ the radio first. SAVE that codeplug to a safe place. The make changes to the codeplug you read in the first step.

There are small differences in the radios that can make a good day bad.
