An XTS5000 would probably not be a great scanner considering you can only 16 channels at any given time. Other then that I used my XTS for things such as Boston Fire or police where they really only use 16 channels. Another plus is they are a lot more rugged then scanners as well.

So is there a Moto you could recommend?

I believe all Moto's have the 16 scan channel limit. They are great radios they just have that limit that I cannot stand. I have moved to Kenwood because they are a commercial radio and don't have a limit on the number of channels you can scan. The same goes for Icom.

XTS5000 would do it. You just have to learn how to properly program the radio so it doesn't affiliate with the system. That's the fun part.

The APX6000/7000 can scan 30 conventional channels, 50 trunking talkgroups in priority monitor mode, or up to 250 in multi-system scan.
