Without running it through NCIC there's really no way to tell. The serial number is a legit format (by the way, that first character is a 4, not an A), and the VJ means it would have been manufactured in 1995 which seems right, but unless a police report is made, you can't tell. There used to be a stolen radio database on batlabs, but I don't think it works anymore.

Where did you get it from?

A02 is not a valid serial number for an MTS2000.
Did you mean 402AVJ0001? Is this printed on the rear tag?

If your buying from a Motorola dealer its a very slim chance of it being stolen. Its an old radio. More then likely he is selling a trade in.

I understand your concern, but those things are going dirt cheap now. The price has dropped considerably.

The Genesis website has the only public data base I know of, and it's pretty small. I put some of our MTS-2000's on there, but in the 10 years I've never had any of the radios returned or been contacted.

These radios are rapidly getting replaced in public safety service, so as the poster above me said, likely a trade in.

It comes with new battery and a stub antenna and he also put a huge flash package in it also he said it has 280 channels basically he customized it cause it was his own personal radio he used it to his specification for his rank as chief of his fire department the only thing that does not come with is a charger and mic which I do have a rapid charger for it but no mic. He wanted $400 for it but I said no bit he the dropped it down to $300 for it the radio is an UHF 450mhz - 520mhz model 3

That's outrageous. I love the MTS2000, but it's a 21 year old radio, no longer made and no longer supported. I sold a similar unit on another forum complete for $150 and I was lucky to get that much. There are plethoras of them all over "everyone's favorite auction site" under $100. I bought three ex-Grand Junction, CO PD VHF MTS2000's (all made in 2002/2003) with DES-XL encryption modules installed for $60 BIN.

$300 can buy you currently supported, entry level Astro 25 radios like MT1500/XTS1500's if you shop around. No way I would pay that much for an MTS2000.

2004 is calling and they want their Jedi's back!

total fairy tale. The MTS2000 is an analog radio, and will not do P25 in anyway, shape or form. The only digital it supports is DES/DVP encryption which is based on 1977 technology.

Show me an MTS2000 that does P25 and I've got some ocean front property in Nashville, TN I can sell you...

For $300 you can get a much nicer radio, much newer and with a lot more functions.

MTS2000's have been end-of-life'd, so if that radio breaks down, getting it fixed can be iffy. There are lots of spares floating around, and lots of people that know how to work on them, but it can be difficult getting some parts. I certainly wouldn't invest $300 bucks in a radio that I might not be able to get parts for.

As others have said, it's an old design and limited in what it can do.

"I have talked to several techs and ham techs and the said I can be done"
These guys are pulling your leg, I wouldn't trust them anymore.

I'll echo everyone else, don't buy it. Judging by the SN, it was manufactured in 1995 so it's not even a newer unit. It's probably just fine functionally, but only if you could get it for half that price.

I think that is one I bought from you... Do you have any more? I prefer the 6 key version.

2004 can not have my Jedi's.

PS I do NOT like my XTS5000.
