Default Moto CDM

I can read and write a 1250 but when I try to read a 1550ls+ I get an error
"Couldn't open port. Check whether device/rib are powered on, and the devise to rib to pc connection is ok. I'm not using a rib and I've been able to read and write no problem before. It's doing this error on 2 of my 1550ls+ Why?

Sounds like your Comm Port isn't right. Close up the CPS. Re-open it, then click on File and then Read Radio. That will force the CPS to ask you to assign a Comm Port. Assign the correct one and you should be OK.

Note well! Using the Read Device icon on the tool bar will not force the Comm Port assignment. You must do it the way I described in the first paragraph for this to work.

I tried that numerous times. The com port I'm using is 1. Com port 1 is the only one I use on the 1250's and I'm using com port 1 for the 1550 and I still get the error.

Well I thought that might have been the problem but I've programmed this 1550ls before with the same software and had no problem.

Reason I asked about remote or dash mount was because I had a 1550 that I could not program when using the remote head kit. I would have to restore the radio to dash mount configuration for programming. Not sure what the core issue was, but I tried it again a few weeks later and it programmed just fine in remote mode. I may have changed the battery in the RIB, who knows. Since you are not using a RIB, not a worry.

I have read that some people have better luck with programming through the rear 20 pin connector, might be worth giving that a try if nothing else works.

Good luck with it.

Do they make a connector that plugs into the back? I didn't see one on eBay. I guess you would just use jumper wires.

It's really easy to build. You can get the 16 pin connectors off e-bay for a few bucks. The 16 pin plugs fit the 20 pin socket used on the CDM's just fine. The 2 pins that are not connected on either side are not used for programming, so you won't miss anything. You should take a look over at Batlabs and see how the RJ45 is wired on your cable and make an adapter to go to the 16 pin connector. It might work, it might not. This works for some, no guarantee it will work for your issue.

I'll give it a shot. I'm convinced its not my software or cable since I can do other 1250's with no hiccup. It just stumps me. I'll keep posting my progress, whether I make any or not.

That problem programming thru the remote head IS the dammed RIB fault. A known problem since 1994....

Wow. I hooked my 1550 to my computer and to my surprise it read and I was able to write. I didn't do anything different. Now watch I'll try to read it in a month or so and it won't work :banghead:
