Default Desktrac & Tone remote

I was given a Desktrac with Tone Remote Command Series (phone console). I cannot get the command series console to communicate with the desktrac. I programmed my freqs in maxtrac rss, and set accessory port to remote all default settings. Then used the desktrac rss to set everything to default settings. they still do not communicate. Anyone know that I am doing wrong?

Does the desktrac even have a tone control board in it? it would be on the bottom of the case under the radio.
The remote would plug into the RJ-45 jack on the back of the unit and it uses pins 1 and 2 (not the middle ones like you would think).

Has the remote and desktrac worked together before you got it?
