Question XTS3000 Buying a Vocoder Board?

I have a UHF XTS and was looking to get a vocoder board.

I have a board for my radio available to me for real cheap, If i get the used board, Obvously the key would be random but, will it come with one loaded already? and ready to use in the radio?

so if i were to buy the board, If i install it into the radio and enable Encryption in the CPS and all that, will it TX with encryption?

if infinity key retention is enabled yes, but i believe when the UCM is removed the keys go with the ucm not the radio. IKR must be enabled prior to removal.

Hope this helps?

You're very confused.

Your XTS3000 already has a vocoder board. But it has nothing to do with encryption.

If you would like to use encryption, you may need a Universal Cryptographic Module (UCM). Have you checked to see if it's already installed? If not, they're all over eBay. Don't pay more than $100 for a DES-OFB/DES-XL R03.xx module. $150-160 if it's a tri-algorithm DES-OFB/DES-XL/AES-256 UCM.

Enabling the UCM will not allow you to TX encrypted. You will need a Key Variable Loader (KVL) to load key variable(s) into the radio. The KVL must be capable of loading the same algorithm present in the UCM.

A cheap DES KVL is the T3011DX. Slightly higher-end with ASTRO25/CKR support/capability is the KVL3000. The fat cat is the KVL3000 Plus. Do some searching/Googling/reading before investing money or programming the radios,

Yes, I saw a "Vocoder Board" for an XTS cheap and it looked like an encryption board. Glad I asked because i am just now looking to learn about it and thought i found a good price.

Thanks for the input
