If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hey guys,

I got my license from Motorola finally after getting my account setup. I'm waiting on my Mototrbo XPR 7550 to come in the mail and I have some questions.

-Do I need the programming cable for Firmware updates or can I do it through bluetooth?
-Straight out of the box can I use the bluetooth on the radio to program it or should I buy the cable?

Congratulations, you will love the 7550.

You can read/write over bluetooth (it is a little involved as you have to configure the radio as a PAN device in Windows) but to do firmware refreshes, you WILL need a cable.

As far as when you get it, you can use BT to read it. Just always save your work in case something goes wrong.

SHOULD you buy a cable? I would say YES if you are doing your own programming. Main reason is firmware updates come just about every other quarter for the TRBO line and this will save you from having to visit a dealer, and since you LEGALLY bought a subscription, you will get the firmware refreshes on your MOL account.

Thanks. I want to buy a cable but didn't know if the cable available in the MOL catalog was a USB or serial port cable.

the only OEM cable is USB, PMKN4012B.

Please note there were two versions of this cable, the earlier PMKN4012A is not fully compatible (without modification) with the 7550.

Yes you should be able to order the cable on your MOL account.

Thanks bud. I found the OEM PMKN4012B cable, and don't have to worry about the PMKN4012A model cable because it isn't listed. $75 bucks for the cable which isn't bad.

XPR 7550 Programming - Zone Configuration

I've programmed 4 Zones and uploaded them to my radio.
Once successfully programmed all modes are present and can be selected with the mode / channel
selector but the zones do not appear.

Pressing P1 does nothing.

How do I enable zone / channel operation?

You do have a button programmed for "zone selection" correct?

Thanks for responding.
I have front button 1 programmed for Zone Selection. I have been over all of my settings in the software and cannot determine what I'm missing.

I've programmed RSS and CPS for Sabers, XTS 3000 / 5000. It seems in CPS the was a selection for mode or zone operation. I was hoping this was what I was missing in MOTOTRBO. Any assistance is appreciated,

Tim

Did you get a fix to this issue? I have two of these to program for a local Fire Department and cant seem to get everything into their respective zones. I've programmed countless XPR 6550's and XPR 4550's but this one is a little new to me. Please help a brother out :)
