• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a Astro Spectra Plus VHF 110 watt remote mount... The radio works fine with no issues until I plug the programming cable into the drawer. The display goes out as it is supposed to but then displays FL 01/90 and will not communicate with the CPS software. Upon unplugging the program cable the radio re-boots and all is well once again. I programmed this on the bench without issue prior to installing in a vehicle. This is an upgrade from a regular Spectra to an Astro Spectra Plus. The only difference is I used a different control head to drawer cable that was already installed in the vehicle that was on the regular VHF Spectra, not the cable I used when programming on the bench.... Is the cable the issue ??

Thank's

Randy

Programming Cable Used Astro 25 CPS

The Astro Spectra Plus, XTL5000 cable is plugged into the programming port immediately adjacent to the power cable plug..... Please remember, that this worked fine on the bench... Same programming cable is being used.

I ask only because all the information I have says you need to program via the keyload port with an HKN6155 cable. The remote cable should be the same.

I can't tell you why it's working in one place and not the other though. Check to make sure that no control cable pins are bent, and that the radio is getting enough power in the vehicle. I know we are talking about a AS+ here, but I have seen Astro Spectras crap out and go into Fail 01/90 when there isn't enough power being sent. You could disconnect the control head cable, jumper the appropriate pins on the radio connector to make it power up without the control head, and see if it will read that way.

Try plugging it in with the radio off, and then turn the radio on. I remember that it was a bit quirky at times. I did have one of those program cables go catastrophic fail on me as well.

If that don't work see if T.J will take a whack at it...

Similar issue. Just bought a used OEM AS+ (W3 is what the model number calls for). Swapped in place of an existing AS drawer (with a W3). Plugged in the HKN6155B and got the 01/90 error. Didn't try a power cycle (maybe tomorrow).

I did swap the drawers back out and the original Astro Spectra came right up.
