• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Does anyone know how much the Motorola XTS2500 costs for 1 VHF middle III, 1 UHF range 1 model III and 1 UHF range 2 model III in Australia? Also would they be allowed through Australian customs?

A legit radio would run about 400-600 bucks on ebay. You should be able to get it through customs. I have never had any problems shipping Motorola products to Australia.

Ok thanks. I seem to recall some restrictions on exporting cryoto devices but maybe obama changed those. He has violated all of our laws so far.

Your not suppose to export any crypto device capable of aes and des. People do it illegally most times if it's in a radio it never gets caught. Some make it through some dont. The actual legit non Franken flashed non toyed with legit xts radio will run you around 800 or so. Anything under is a unspoken toyed radio that had bootstrap upgrades or model cases changed out then tooled with then I buttoned firmware to make it look like a as always radio model 3. Don't get me wrong for ham use the 400 dollar ones are ok. I wouldn't let any ebay radio touch a public safety system until it's been through a legit service and tuning shop checked in and out every cranny and tested. Even then I am unsure but for ham use you'll be ok. As for your encryption question a radio must have the same ucm module as others and same key. Just because it has a board doesn't mean it'll decode. The key loader is needed for keys. None less it is illegal in any country to intercept and decode a secure transmission unless the radio admin has authorized a user permission or its agency chief/director or comms manager. If over the air rekeying is used the keys change at set intervals by the administration who runs and controls the network or radio services. So a key loader would be pointless for potential sneakers if your know what I mean. If it's for your own use in your group or business then you should be fine following your laws on comms. But exporting encryption modules is pretty much on the list of banNed exports from the usa. Doesn't mean they find them in parcels confiscate them or catch them. But if they do you cant complain.

DES and AES can be legally exported to any country not on the list of excluded countries.
