• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I know this might be a shot in the dark, but you never know, right? I have a VHF XPR-4550 with a blown audio amp. I also have a VHF XPR-4350 that works, but lacks a display and more than 32 channels. Question is, is it possible to swap out the audio board or is the amp on a board with something that is not interchangeable? In the alternative, would it be possible to swap out just the audio amp (something I would pay an electronics tech to do) or are these parts simply not interchangeable? Any help would be appreciated.

I'm leaning towards the single part being the same, I mean, why wouldn't it be? But the odds of the entire board being the same is the real long shot. It would be nice if I could open the radios and swap boards real fast, but if I have to swap the components themselves I would have to rely on a technician to handle that for me. Just trying to explore my options before I think about cracking one open.

I doubt there is just an audio board. I will try to look at the schematic but usually it's all integrated into one single board anymore.

Ok, so my guy can't seem to get the one chip off of the one board, so I am trying to find an online source for the chip needed. I cannot seem to find the service manual or anything relating to the audio amp chip anywhere. Google has failed me...

The part is called out in the detailed service manual. The part is available on MOL, the part is the same for all Gen 1 radios. The radio is a single board unit.

Parts removal requires hot air debonding techniques, some components require two surface heating. Some larger components are BGA's, not my favorite cup of tea.
