• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Just programmed dept issued portables for emergency call, and now when I power the radio on it requests a status 1-16. How do I disable that. The help tutorial was no help.

It requests a status 1-16? What does that mean?

Sorry, I might be thick- I'm just not following.

Yeah. I dont understand it either. If I set the cpg for no TXID, the radio turns on normally. No issues or requests. Once i set the TXID in the channel and send it to the radio, it powers on and asks for a status. It gives 16 options. I have not set any MDC messaging or anything, just to send the unit's MDC1200.

Check for any setup indicating the radio is set up to send some sort of a unit status message. Sounds like it's powering up and asking what status you want to send to your dispatcher. I know you said you disabled MDC messaging, but it sounds like the only likely cause is the radio preparing to send some sort of status update.

Disable all status related items and try again, see if it does it still.

Thank you, FFEMT, I will look at it again tonight during drill. The odd thing is this. When I disable PTTID it goes away. I change nothing else at all. Not power settings, etc. Turn it back on it starts again. I hope my chief didnt buy crap again.

Will update tonight.

My assumption is that if that box is checked it looks at what ever channel it powers up on to see if MDC is enabled. My guess is that if the radio is programmed to power up on the 'last selected channel' and that channel didn't have MDC enabled, that it would skip over the MDC Status menu. The description that Motorola gives in the help section is very poor to say the least.

Update: I did some checking with a 7550 that I have. I was correct in my assumption. The software is checking the channel parameters and if it finds that MDC is enabled on the transmit side, it will request you input a status from that menu. It will not bring up the menu if you only have MDC enabled on the receive side or if you don't have MDC enabled on the channel. My guess would be that someone accidently checked that MDC Status box when setting up your codeplug, I don't think it's checked by default from factory.

Cant upload the codeplug here. PM me and I will email it to you.

So here is what I found. The shop that did the original program added a lot of repeat channels to fill up the radio. I dont know why. So when I want the radio to power up on the FIRE PRIMARY there are 5 of the same channel to chose from. As long as only one is set to TX MDC, and not the power-up channel, it doesnt ask me for status on power-up. I went and deleted all of the duplicate channels, made FIRE PRIMARY the start up channel and set to TX MDC, i still get the request for status. we dont use zones anymore, since we have the 360 channel knob.

I am wondering if having duplicate personalities is the problem.
