I just found out how to disable the noise blanker "extender" feature in my low-band Maxtrac...hold the MON button down until it beeps a few times and checks off the middle left cross-hatch on the display.
So, I am reading this is meant to attenuate the receiver in short pulses to reduce ignition noise. This radio is installed in a Prius, wired to the trunk battery, and the car electrical system is very isolated from the engine, so ignition or alternator noise is not an issue. Would I be correct in assuming I can just disable this and the RX performance will improve? I am not sure if it does anything else that would improve performance. I have always had relatively poor/weird RX issues with this receiver, such as what seems like squelch clipping, puttering noises etc.
