Default MDC1200 preamble

So Iíve heard the MDC1200 ďpreambleĒ before, and Iíve always wondered what it is. I think I heard something about it letting you put more characters for the ID, but Iím definitely not an expert. Also, is there a way to program a XTS5000 with this format? Or is it for older radios only?

By the way, if anyone wants to know what it sounds like, here is the link: http://www.w2sjw.com/sounds/MDC1200%20Preamble.mp3

Preamble is used so that all radios on a particular channel have time to sync up. Preamble is simply a packet of sync bits that are sent prior to the actual ID, this will give a repeater with a longer on-delay time to come up or operate correctly on a simulcast conventional system.
All Motorola Radioís with MDC capability have adjustable preamble and pre-time.
