Default Astro Saber Battery 32 hour charge?

Just picked up an OEM battery (NTN4595D) and on the back of the battery there's a label saying that the battery needs to be charged for 32 hours before initial use. That seems a bit excessive for a NiCad, but why is it? Is there any benefit to charging it for that amount of time? I was under the impression they needed to be charged 14-16 hours for maximum capacity. Any help is appreciated.

Well the Astro Sabers took the same battery as the Sabers did, and those are late 80's equipment. Probably because the standard chargers they had back then took 12-14 hours normally, so really topping off the battery was kinda SOP.

What's the date code on that battery!?
