If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Ive recently been asked by my company to take over programming radios. They have all the software and a collection of cables. I am a little new to this, so i may take some hand holding.

All the cables and software we have has little notes letting me know what CPS goes with each radio, and what cable goes to what.

Im having trouble programming a Radius Cm200 radio. I am using the cable that I use to program PM400 radios, and I am using Commercial Series CPS, but I keep getting a Error 514 when trying to read the radio. The software is version 5.18. The software worked when programming the PM400, which went very well.

Can anyone offer any suggestions ? I have a lot of the Cm200s that Id like to put to use.

There are several older threads here on RR that discuss this problem:

https://forums.radioreference.com/motorola-forum/256583-cm300-programming.html

With a little bit of searching over on the batboard, you'll find several more threads describing the fix in detail.

Search tags: The Commercial Series included: Mobiles: CM200 CM300 PM400

It may be helpful to search using wildcards. If someone asks a question about one model, the answer usually pertains to most, if not all.

They are all programmed with RVN4191 CPS. The last version of the CPS released before the product line was discontinued is R05.18.

If you need a blank codeplug, there is a folder full of them, one for each possible model number already on your hard drive. The folder is in Program Files where your CPS is installed. It is labelled SAMPLES.

Are you using a true Moto cable with a rib or aftermarket? Homemade?

I made a cable to program Maxtracs, CDM series radios as well as the CM series. In most cases, people do not make the cable right and it requires an adapter that you may not be using. Here is a picture:

https://shopwiscomm.com/FKN8096B-FKN8096-Motorola-ELM-FLASHDATA-ADAPTER-ROHS-P1749451.aspx

Depending on the cable, you may need to be using this adapter. You can make a cable that will eliminate the need for this adapter. Being it's the weekend, I don't have more information than this here at home.

I will add that Motorola, Kenwood, and others number the RJ45, and other RJ connector pins backwards.

I use a resistor between the 9 volts and the Hook pin, so the 9 volts does not get shorted.

Here's the info on how to make the cable and resistor values:

Making a Programming Cable That Works With a CM300 Radio

Thank you.

I would point out that those using documentation from Motorola's manuals will quickly discover that the pin numbering is the reverse of what's used in this article. (I know cmdrwill pointed this out in an earlier post, but it bears emphasis.) It doesn't matter which you use, but I would encourage using a VOM to verify that +9.3vdc is on the pin where it's supposed to be.

I made mine just jumping out 6 and 8. I didn't use a resistor and it works fine on CDM's and the CM series. I have no Maratracs so was not worried about it.

Sorry for the long delay in replying. Ive been on a little vacation.

I did find some post on this site about having to modify the cable to work for the Cm series.

Im not sure if the cable im using is a real motorola cable or not, I dont see the name on it anywhere.

However, I am using a USB to RJ45 cable to program this radio. Im running Windows 7 64bit, and I read that sometimes the OS can cause trouble. So , I dug out out old Windows XP laptop and tried the cable and software on it, and it worked perfect. No trouble at all.

I wish I would have tried that before I ordered a new cable just for the CM series.
