Default Tetra

Hello.

I see where more and more systems are TETRA.
Is TETRA replacing MPT-1327?
Also, the fallback for MPT-1327 can be analog conventional as a rule, I almost never see this, why?
In the case of TETRA, direct radio to radio communications is the rule.
And, since the RF section of most TETRA radios are linear, FM,and even AM, can be programmed into the radio.
So, what is the story, is MPT-1327 being replaced, or is TETRA the gradual phase in for analog?

TETRA is the natural digital predecessor to MPT1327 being open source, however in most countries they have different markets. TETRA is mainly used in the Public Safety & High End Business sector, whilst MPT1327 is still today more popular for Commercial, Transport companies and Energy operators who are attracted by its low cost and open protocol.

Perhaps nothing has gone wrong! A MPT1327 system will have an inherent fallback for its users with several allocated to each repeater to run in conventional mode until service is restored.

TETRA is one-to-one and one-to-group. Fast setup wide area group calling <50ms is one of the advantages of the technology.

TETRA is the long-term replacement for MPT1327, however whilst it's gaining popularity all over the world in the Public Safety field, MPT1327 continues to expand in the commercial sector.

Hope that answers some of your questions there...

There is no direct link between TETRA and specifically MPT1327 systems. Just think of it as New technology replacing Old technology. Even Motorola Smartnet systems are been replaced by TETRA.

A system, as a whole, hasn't failed.??

can be programmed ??? While the RF sections may be linear, there is no provision in the specifications for such ancient forms of modulation to be used.

In the case of TETRA, direct radio to radio communications is the rule.
TETRA base stations also support fallback operation / local site trunking. It's still TETRA modulated though.

Only if you have no coverage at all direct radio to radio communication (called DMO - Direct Mode Operation) is needed.

<500ms would be correct; typically in the area of 200-300ms for a system with only one layer of switches (only very large networks require more than one layer).
