Red face MPT 1327 physical interface and API (Motorola/Nokia)

Hi,

Can anyone help me obtain some information on the physical interfaces and API'd to Motorola and/or Nokia MPT 1327 (1) basestations and (2) mobile units?

I'm working with a company that has created a radio integration software application. We need some info on the physical connectors on MPT 1327 radio apparatus - for example a list of different sockets on the equipment, RS232 pinouts, RJ45 pinouts, basically anything that will help us to understand more about how to send and receive voice and data to and from the units.

Thanks!!

If you are going to sell it commercially, you had better get better information than asking on an Internet discussion group.

I would think that you would need to buy and test each of the radio models you propose to interface to. AT least get the high level information you are asking for directly from the service manuals.

Smile Map27

Hello Paul

You need to look into something called MAP27 which defines a serial interface between
an MPT1327 radio and the outside world. The full specification is available online for free
as .PDF file if you search around. Its more complex than say "AT" commands having
checksums and the like so the learning curve can be steep. However once mastered it is
very powerful and you can connect software to MPT1327 networks for fun & profit.

However a quick word of warning ensure you test your software with an example of
every radio you are supporting. I found the hard way that there are subtitle differences in
manufacturers implimentations of MAP27 so that your software may work on radio A but
not work on radio B - There then follow many happy hours of debugging !

Oh and no MAP27 radio I have seen has ever implimented all the features of the standard
so that can cause problems. Also I'm not sure if MAP27 defines the actual physical
interface as I think I have seen different connectors used.

Sorry for sounding negative but MAP27 can be a struggle. However once its going then
it is very useful

Good luck.

Ian

I have to go along with N_Jay on this one.

I'm always suspicious of people who claim to be connected with some major high-tech enterprise but who cannot find out fundamental information on their own, resorting instead to asking a bunch of hobbyists on the Web. It makes no sense to me.

My reputation and a buck-twenty-five will get me a cup of coffee. :-)
