Default New MPT-1327 System in the US

Everyone,

A new MPT-1327 system in Decatar/Wise County TX (Near DFW TX) has just recently gone on-line.

I've received a decoder box from the folks at: http://www.tbsa.com.au/trunk.html and will be decoding this system and testing the Ftrunk application.

For more information on the City of Decator / Wise County system, goto

Has this system actually gone on-line?

There are new MPT 1327 systems on-line in Louisiana, South Carolina and more to come in several other locations.

Does anyone considerthe Securicor Wireless ADNT system MPT 1327? It is based on MPT 1327 but has unique features due to it being AM using their LM (Linear Modulation) system. I would like to hear of anyone's experience with the system.

There is a large MPT system run by Regionet now Mobex. Does anyone include these systems?

What is the news on the MPT-1327 system?
I tryed to click on the second link and it
doesn't go anywhere. The reason I ask is
because Philadelphia, PA has MPT 1327 Regular
and I'm interrested in it.

Great question...

That link has been updated to:
http://www.trunkedradio.net/cgi-bin/display.pl?state=TX

I haven't lived in the DFW area for over 6 months, so I'm not sure what the status of the system is at this time. When I left in March, the system was just being brought online. Not much activity at all.

Hope this helps!

Did you ever get your F-Trunk unit to work?

Hello,

The ACSSB trunked systems in Boston also use MPT1327 using lower frequencies. One project is to modify the linux MPT-1327 program to decode it better. I think the low tone is a half cycle of 600 Hz per bit instead of one cycle of 1200 per bit. I was able to use my AOR 8600 in SSB mode.

I understand that I can use a recorded audio signal to run the F-Trunk box. If someone would record a few minuttes as a wav and sent it along I will see if and how this box works and maybe got some information on your system. Thanx

Default MPT-1327

Here is a little info on MPT-1327. The format was developed in the UK in the early 1980's. The Minesrty of Post and Telecomm wanted to develop a non-exclusive trunking format to be used in their country. MPT invited all manufacturers to develop a trunking format. The contributing companies were Motorola, Tait, Fylde Microsystems, and one other company. While each contributing company had their "specialty" area of input, one company had already developed a strong platform for trunking back in The USA. Motorola had already rolled out The Privacy Plus format. After a few minor changes to the system, MPT adopted the format. The main difference is The MPT-1327 sites could be linked togather to form wide area, mulit-site coverage. Unlike Privacy Plus.

Well back in The USA, Motorola had to take steps to prevent the MPT format to be used and sold so as to not creat competition for themselves. It is still not clear what the had done to prevent a migration to the states, but whay ever they did "it worked". And it worked for many years. Thanks to companies like Zetron and Tait, they stood up to the radio giant and won the war.

Now, one must understand. The MPT-1327 trunking format was very successful worldwide, except for the states, be we know why. This format is over 20 years old. Other formats have been developed and may be better suited for Public Safety and large commerical applications. However, The MPT format is cost effective to implement. Has features simular to SmartZone, and may possibly become one of the most widely used formats in America.

I personally have had the opportunity to engineer and deploy a two site MPT system in Chattanooga, Tennessee. I have contacts that are planning to deploy sites or have already put systems online in Ocala, FL, Knoxville TN, and a few other areas.[/b]
