This thread is for discussion of the First Energy P25 trunked system.

First Energy: Allegheny Power Trunking System, Various, Multi-State - Scanner Frequencies

The First Energy P25 trunked system currently [as of June 2013] covers parts of Pennsylvania, West Virginia. This system covers portions of the First Energy territory including portions of the ex-Allegheny Power / Mon Power and Potomac Edison territories.

More info to follow.

Some things to know:
  • To monitor this system, you must have a digital scanner capable of monitoring Phase 1 P25. This includes the Radio Shack PRO-2096/96/197/106 models, the GRE PSR-500/600/800 models, and the Uniden BCD396[X]T, BCD996[X]T and Uniden HP-1 models as well as possibly a few older generation Uniden digital models.

  • If you'd like to help determine active sites in this system and their locations, you'll need a trunking application such as Unitrunker or Pro96Com and will either need to have a scanner capable of sending control channel data to a computer or will need a scanner with a discriminator tap. A Uniden Home Patrol with the Extreme upgrade will likely display useful information about trunked sites as well.

  • Thus far, this system is a VHF system. Most control channel frequencies are between 151-154 Mhz and from 173-174 mhz.

  • Some of the frequencies within this system are in the 152 mhz paging spectrum. Paging spectrum in certain market areas was acquired by Allegheny Power [and then re-assigned to First Energy]. The specific paging frequencies that may be in use on the system do not currently show up in FCC license records and may never show up there.

Because of this, it is hard to pin down some of the sites that have 152 mhz control channels because they cannot be cross referenced [easily] with FCC records. However, with some careful sleuthing of the various sites, we can determine site locations. Of course, this will happen a lot faster if people work together to determine these locations.

Feel free to send me a private message if you'd like to help map out some of the unknown sites. Post your questions or findings here.

Note: This thread itself shouldn't turn into a How-To for how to use trunking applications to follow/map out a system. That is why I have mentioned that you can PM me if you are interested in doing so. I'll attempt to help as much as I can, within limits.

Thanks,

Mike

I should have stated that this system covers parts of PA, WV, MD and VA.

Is there any chance you could get me a pristine new dump on Site 1-195 ? I'm interested to see if the peer/neighbor information has changed.

Thanks!

Mike

Here's what I've got via SDR#/Unitrunker -

Glengary site - 001-035

NAC - 897

peers -

001-008 173.3750

BM,

Thank you for all of those peer site updates. I"ve updated the site neighbors listed in the DB for the above mentioned sites.

Since I closed the other two State threads on this network I wanted to include one of them that hasn't been mentioned yet for reference's sake.

Mike,

Im seeing a few unconfirmed TG's show up since Monday. Im trying to ID them as we speak. It seems the Midland tower has a few site neighbors and is hearing considerable radio traffic from the other sites.

Do you have the capability of running Pro96Com or Unitrunker on the Midland site? If so, would you be willing to do so and get an updated list of site neighbors / their associated frequencies?

Thanks

Mike

Default Site 001-042

I first noticed this site in UniTrunker on 11/30. It is one of the peers of the Glengary WV site. It is in the RR database as an recent addition. I can "see" 153.5150 in SDR# but it is too weak for me to decode. It must be fairly close to my location or i wouldn't "see" it at all. Below is what Unitunker shows for the Glengary site. Any ideas as to where it is located?

Do you think you could be copying Linden, VA (Fauquier Co) ?

I suspect that is the site.

That's quite possible. I can copy the Virginia STARS Hogback Mountain site which is located about 10 miles from Linden. Guess I'll have to have a little road trip to check it out with UniTrunker.

Did some searching around regarding 153.515.

The only site currently licensed for operation on this frequency
is located at Terra Alta, Wv (Preston County)
The license for Linden, Va has a pending application attachment to delete
151.490 and replace it with 153.515. The license is WQOY898. See the
attachment at the FCC site explaining the request. It was submitted 11/2013 and has not
been granted yet..

Watching the Weirton site with Unitrunker and saw affiliations to TGs 73, 65, 82. Lots to 73. No voice traffic yet though.
