Question Best Drummer ever

Who in your opinion is the best drummer that has ever existed?

My vote is for Neil Peart from Rush......

Keith Moon and my all time favorite Ringo Starr because I'm a big Beatle fan.

Neil pert is definitely way up there for rock, Jeff Porcaro was probably one of the top studio rock/jazz drummers but the all time greatest will always be Buddy Rich.

I can not dispute that Buddy Rich was AWESOME for his time.

Thanks for your input.

I did not mention that on the DVD Rush R30 Neil Peart does his solo and then goes into a jazz type solo to acknowledge the greats.

He is awesome!!!

If your going to mention drummers missing a limb then Sandy Nelson would be on top. I remember about 30yrs ago Sandy had 40 something albums out and his style continues to be copied today.

Check this out and tell me if this recording of Sandy Nelson from 1960 doesn't have deep roots in many rock recordings today.

Neil Peart. I always think of the end of "subdivisions" where there is so much going on it sounds like two people are playing drums.

prcguy is taking me to school on some drummers that I have never heard of.
I am glad I started this thread for the educational value.
Thank you for the time you spent showing me the inspirations for the "newer" drummers.

But never stop educating people......knowledge is power!!!!

Thanks

Joe Morello in the original days of the Dave Brubeck jazz quartet was one of the best at doing some wicked time signatures and improvisations. He sometimes tuned his setup to play melodies as he drummed. His drum solo playing the melody in their version of "Short'nin' Bread" is some pretty good listening.

Guess I'm telling my age.....I remember seeing Buddy Rich and his contemporaries in live performances several times in my youth.

I've always been partial to Bill Ward from Black Sabbath due mainly in part to a solo off of the "Live at Last" album.

I must agree though that Keith Moon, Neil Peart and John Bonham are all awesome.

There are so many that could be considered. Two great ones that I've seen live are Tony Hammons of Montgomery Gentry and Jeff Plate of Trans Siberian Orchestra.

Not to say others are not better but those are two great drummers that I've seen live.

The Professor is my all time favorite, being a drummer myself I think he is probably one of the best alive.

But totally agree with all others above, all great drummers!. Jeff Plate is great in concert, but then again the whole Trans Siberian Orchestra is awesome.
