Will someone post the known used railroad frequencies for the Omaha and Lincoln areas.

Jerry,

We could really use your help in this area. As you might have already noticed .. the RRBD is *very* sparse in this department.

All the traffic that a railfan scannist will want to listen to will be in the 160Mhz range. So what you need to do is key in the 97 railroad frequencies into a bank on your scanner and start listening!

I've tried googling for a site that may give you heads up .. but could not quickly find anything specific.

If you want to find all the railroad licenses in your area, go here
http://gullfoss2.fcc.gov/reports/index.cfm
Select one of the Frequency (Range) queries
Enter M160.215 and M161.565 for the begin and end frequencies
for Service select Land Mobile - Private [LP]
for Radio Service select Industrial/Business Pool - Conventional [IG]

You can then download the results or search them and make a custom
spreadsheet with only the fields you want and download it.

They license all of those freqs at mulitple locations, in order to use them at will without having to individually license each one when the time comes. Some of those are not going to be used while most of those could be in a location like the North Platte yard. (which is probably trunked by now, UP has a trunking system at most major yards) If you're mainly interested in the 'road' channels, then look at the Amtrak site I sent

161.385 BNSF Sioux City Sub (Ashland to Sioux City, IA), Napier Sub (Napier, MO to Pacific Jct., IA)

Besides these road frequencies, there are several more yard-related frequencies that are in-use in Omaha, Council Bluffs, and Lincoln, however I don't have them in front of me!

actually union pacific isnt trunked, they'll never see the need to nor will management ever put out the money for it that goes towards their bonuses, everythings within 160's and 161's range on all railroads due to the radios they use, when you enter another railroad companies territory you operate on their frequency, fact is if one company goes trunking they all must nationwide every single railroad employee in the country still working since the 70's and 80's radio gets replaced in every single company along with the over ride of the dispatch centers.....never happening.

161.0700 - Got it! I've heard that one a few times, but it's a bit scratchy in Cass County!

In fact, I believe I read somewhere that the UPRR was testing P25 trunking in a yard in Utah, though I am not sure which one - there are probably more by now. Trunking DOES make sense in a yard environment where you have several groups operating on multiple frequencies. However, as you point out, I think that the conventional mode of operation will be the dominant one on the road considering the expense required to purchase new radio gear. Besides, the infrastructure simply isn't there to implement trunking for road operations.

In the 2010 - 2011 timeframe, the AAR is going to implement a completely new channel configuration in the 160-161 railroad channel space which will effectively double the number of usable channels. This comes to us through the conversion to narrowband communications and the possible use of P25 in both the conventional and trunking modes. While I don't have a URL to post at the moment, the new plan specifies ranges for both conventional and trunking communications in the new plan.

Also, with the AAR re-banding, individual IG licenses will cease and each railroad will operate under a SINGLE AAR "geographic license" which will apply to ALL railroad rights-of-way in the U.S.

BNSF up in Sioux City past MP 107.7 uses Ch 75-27 to talk to the yard office. I had to get my company portable reprogrammed to work up there. I am not entirely sure of that is part of the new band plan.

The only addition I can have to that is
the UPRR Mainline from Missouri Valley to omaha and Missouri valley to arlington is 160.74

The UPRR Mainline from Arlington to Fremont and other points west, and the mainline from Fremont to Pacific street in omaha is 161.49
