Default Bad dispatcher audio on "Info" TG's

Has anyone listening to the DouglasCounty system today noticed the TERRIBLE audio quality on the North Info and South Info TG's?

As of 1413, North Info is the worst - almost to the point of distortion.

I've heard Motorola techs talking on "Motorola 5" earlier today, regarding "Time Constants" and "Level Values". I'm wondering if they're doing some adjustment to the audio quality on the system.

Also, TG615 has been quite active today with what sounds like Cadet driving exercises.

I have noticed the last few days that the "simulcast slop" has been noticable.

There have been times when it has been much worse. I just assumed at first that they used GPS for
synchronizing the system, but now I am not so sure. I need to remember to ask Greg next time I
see him.

George-Do you remember listening to the "Info" channel on the UHF system?
The operators sounded bad then, too. They're probably still using the same old remote.
I didn't listen to the radio today, but are you noticing just the "operator" audio sounding bad,
or the cars too?

Hey, John!

Nope - just the Dispatcher audio and like I said, North Info was the worst and continues to be that way today.

And here's another thought relating to my comment about the traffic on the "Motorola 5" TG - I suspect that Motorola is probably making modifications to the DouglasCounty system in preparation for the addition of the Pott County subsystem.

Unfortunately, I never listened to the Omaha UHF system, though reading comments and stories that you and Frank have mentioned, it would've been a neat system to listen to! IIRC, that was a SpectraTAC voted system!

Thanks and 73s

So, would that suggest that Dispatch Consoles on the DouglasCounty system don't have a "direct" tie into the trunking system? Are they using some kind of RF transport, like the mobiles/portables do?

I would've thought that those consoles would have the same type of connection that the consoles on the Sarpy County system do - no RF transport, just a direct console connection into the trunking infrastructure.

The Sarpy County consoles connect into their system much like a Tone Remote could do on a SpectraTAC voter with the Tone Priority Module installed.

Hey George,

I believe, don't quote me, Douglas County is tied via RF and Hardline. The Rescue Captain at Irvington is a dispatcher at Douglas County 911, perhaps I can ask him to be sure.

By the way, the North Info Channel audio has always sounded bad. Very overmodulated.

I think I will watch Police Academy tonight...hehehe

They are connected by BOTH wireline console connections, and Radio backup.

That is very wise, IMHO.

The telco provider (Qwest) does have ocassional unpredictable T-1 interruptions.

I will never forget...One afternoon, a Qwest customer service rep. called me and asked if I
was aware that there was a T-1 problem. I swear I looked at the terminal rack not 2 minutes earlier!

Nevertheless...now I was seeing all 1's alarms on both halves of the T-1.

That is the nature of the business...

I was recently issued a XTS5000 Tier II that has some of the Omaha/Douglas County talk-groups,
like DC Dispatch, OPD S/E, OPD S/W, etc. in "D" Zone.

I couldn't believe how terrible the audio difference is between the Sarpy digital talk-groups and the
Omaha groups. I don't know how the folks north of Harrison Street put up with it. The servicemen
tweaking on that system must be factory-trained by Tandy Corporation. Terrible !

(Sounds like a job for "Mr. Fixit" if you ask me ;-)

Yeah the audio sucks, I'd rather just stick to my analog.
