There once was a Ham Radio store in Omaha behind Tobacco/Phones 4 less off 41st and Dodge a few years ago, but since has closed.

Allen,
Are you getting in ham radio or just wanting to use a ham radio to monitor railroad traffic? Just curious. . .

I have been for many years now been doing alot of thinking about getting into the HAM business. More than likely I won't now due to the FCC tests. I really don't want to deal with the tests.

I'm not all that active in ham radio but it is nice to carry to license.

That is true. The only reason I wanted to get involved in Ham is for Storm Spotter Reports to the NWS. Mostly.

The Technician Class license test is not all that hard. Below are links to some on-line practice tests.
Give them a shot:
QRZ.COM QRZ Ham Radio Practice Tests
AA9PW FCC Exam Practice » Amateur Radio Exam Practice
eHam.net Ham Radio Practice Exams
W8MHB.com - Online Practice Exams
The Bellevue Amateur Radio Club will be conducting a 2-part class for the Technician class license.
The dates are October 17th and 24th, from 9 AM to 4 PM on Saturdays. A VE testing session will be
conducted on the 31st of October. It will be held in the Ogram Suite at Midlands Hospital in Papillion.
The cost of the course is $25 which includes the ARRL "Ham Radio License Manual" (retails for $24.95).
For more information, contact Allen Long KØAAL at education@bellevuearc.org
Good luck.

10 years ago...or so, the local VFD's did the spotting in Washington County. At least we did in Herman. Things may have changed since then though.

The testing for the technician class license is fairly easy to study for, no morse code test. Without a license then it becomes CB radio, although in some areas of the country, sadly it does seem like CB already. Whatever you decide, I wish you the best.

Getting into it is real easy now days they are right about that.
I have thought off and on about getting into it since the 80s but never did anything until this year.
I don't live in this area but do work for a company here in Omaha so looked into somewhere out here for the testing and the Bellevue group was fantastic.
The guy running it helped me with directions into the place where it was being held and everything.
It was a really good experience and now I have had my license since April.
Look up NB0B if you can, he was the one helping me and also doing the class.
Very nice guy and lots of help
Good luck
