Douglas County Trunked Systems
Besides the NELMRS/ORION system, do any of the other systems have anything interesting to listen to?
Commscope?
Team Air?
How bout that First Digital Holdings (Omaha 800MHz LTR East...and West)? Omaha coalition of citizens patrols? What is this like neighborhood watch?
First Digital Holdings LLC (UHF)? First Student Inc?
Finally what is the RACOM? A giant interlinked system...can you hear broadcasts from distant radios...like a repeater?
I'm a novice when it comes to these new systems and how they work. Been listening a long time since my dad's old tube shortwave radio that's still downstairs.
Thanks for any information or opinion,
John in Omaha

Never heard citizens patrol on those system. I really don't listen to them I would rather be listening to police and fire.

Yes. You can listen to Medivac helicopters, Iowa's statewide hospital nets and Iowa's statewide Emergency government nets. Very interesting to listen to when Iowa is running a statewide exercise or even an areawide

Thank you. This forum is great for quick information. Saves me time from programming things and listening to dead air.

If you do put in the RACOM system it is an EDACS trunking system If you have a scanner that uses banks the frequencies and the channel number of the bank have to match the LCN order, frequency 1 has to be in channel 1, frequency 3 has to be in channel 3, if there is a skip LCN you have to skip that channel number. You can only put one site in per bank.
If you have a scanner uses systems instead of banks the LCN still has to be in order.
If you don't program the LCN correctly you will not track the conversation or system correctly.

I'm using a PSR 500 scanner. Win500 software. It pulled the data down and I uploaded it. It looks like its order according to the list posted on this website. Channels 1-9 I believe.
I would only use West Omaha, since I'm in the west Omaha area right? Otherwise the freqs would be all mixed up.

yes, Lifecom dispatches for many helicopters and ambulace companies around the county from Omaha. Here they use RACOM. You will hear them dispatch unit for Iowa on that system.

Let's not forget LifeNet Helicopter is also heard over ORION, TG 210, however it is mainly medical reports to Omaha hospitals only.

You also have Heimes Construction, and ATS LTR. I find business much more interesting than Police and Fire Dept. You never know what you will hear from these types of workers.

Back in the good ol' days, it was interesting to listen in on RCC mobile phone calls.
Very entertaining at times !

Howdy, everyone!
Actually, my favorite business system to listen to is the the First Digital Holdings Motorola system here in Omaha! My favorite way to listen, though sometimes disjointedly, is to put my 396XT into "ID SEARCH" mode and let it go!
Here's the link: First Digital (Omaha) Trunking System, Omaha, Nebraska - Scanner Frequencies
Abe's Trash Service is on there, as is Papillion Sanitation. Also, you can listen to Shuttle Bus services, a Traffic Signage company, a couple of paving companies (in the summer months), and lots of Auto Parts delivery services.
Lots of good listening on this system - and some of the language is "laced with many colorful metaphors"! (Mr. Spock, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)

During my 10 year "sentence" at FedEx, we had a Cuban accented dispatcher that, if caught on bad days, would put up nasty arguments over the radio. We also had a few bored Couriers that would make obnoxious noises, etc....
FedEx was over 856.8625 a few years ago, but switched to AT&T for non-voice dispatching, messages, data. It really sucked, lots of dead spots around Omaha, didn't work outside Omaha. On the old analog repeater, coverage was excellent for over 40 miles. Not to mention, I was able to hit the repeater and receive data over 856.8625 from hilltops near Oakland, Ne and Denison, Ia.

Oakland to Omaha is a good distant. AT& T might work now due to Viaero Wireless covering most of Nebraska in GSM.
