Default OPD: New Radio System in the future?

See the following YouTube video:

Chief talks about new radios 2013 07 12 - YouTube

Looking at the above video, OPD is planning on a new system. Any ideas?

There are two issues involved here.

Regarding the "system" - there are certain infrastructure elements that will reach end of life and need replacement, but the Motorola Astro 25 (P25) platform won't be replaced - just kept current. This affects all users of ORION.

The more urgent problem for OPD is worn out end user radios - mostly portables that are tired from being used three shifts per day for years on end.

That makes sense. I figured radios but the chief makes it sound like the whole system will be replaced.

yeah, the way he worded it did make it sound like a new system. Hopefully, if thats the case, its something that can be monitored with a scanner
