Hopefully this will provide a better understanding of frequency usage in Madison County.
Madison County Sheriff runs on a frequency of 39.360. They use 2 towers, one located in Madison and a remote tower near Battle Creek. Radio traffic on the Battle Creek tower is relayed to the Sheriff dispatch center via UHF RF links(453.575 & 458.575). 154.705 is the Sheriff’s department mobile extender frequency. This is the frequency that is used to link the Sheriff’s department Low Band mobile radios to the hand held radio that is carried by the officer.
You will hear radio traffic from a variety of agencies on 154.705 since the Madison County Sheriff’s department scans several frequencies including: 39.360, 39.900, 39.760, 39.980, 42.480, and 42.280 among others. This means that State Patrol transmissions may be heard on 154.705 since the Madison Sheriff’s department monitors NSP frequencies on the mobile radios.

On a side note, 154.705 is also the mobile extender frequency for Stanton County.
NSP in Madison County uses 42.480 for Base-to-Mobile and 42.280 for Mobile-to-Base. There are also several statewide Mobile-to-Mobile frequencies such as 42.040, 45.740, 45.820, 42.200 and a few others.
NSP uses a mobile extender frequency of 465.525 statewide. Additionally select NSP radios are programmed with County Low Band frequencies for the area that they patrol. This means that an NSP radio in Madison county will scan several frequencies including: 42.480, 42.280, 42.040, 39.900, 39.360, 39.760, etc. This means that Madison or Stanton county transmissions may be heard on 465.525 since the NSP monitors their frequencies on the mobile radios.

Long story short, 154.705 is the Madison and Stanton County Sheriff mobile extender frequency, and 465.525 is the NSP mobile extender frequency.
