What do you want to listen to? You'll need a digital scanner for the ORIN system (Omaha PD, Fire, etc) if that is what you wish to listen to.

Council Bluffs and Potte County, IA

Those two should give you something to listen too.

Almost all counties that swtich to a TRS, keep the county fire paging channel. They don't have pagers capable of monitoring a TRS for a fire call. There for, they keep using the fire channel to alert the firemen of fire calls. Plus, people with scanners can still monitor it and keep alert when bad weather or such moves in. Lots of good reasons to keep the old fire paging frequencies. Can you think of a negitive reason to keep it?

Its somewhat redundant to alert both on a TRS and a convetional highband or UHF freq. This over time is additional maintenance costs, time and manpower for upkeep.

It'd be just as easy to do a combination of TRS, and alphanumberic paging, or a mixture of the two, or do it on the same freq and this would make it not as scanner friendly if people had to sit through and listen to data streams too.

My brother, who lives near Denver, whom is a Lieutenant for Greater Brighton Fire Protection District, says they got away from the Minitors and switched to alphanumeric paging and voice dispatching over Colorado's DRS about 6 years ago.

He rather have a Minitor, easier to replay the call over the voice pager than trying to see the call over his alphanumeric pager.

I couldn't agree with you more! Plus there is nothing like having the tones go off and your pager go crazy. I'd think too many people would sleep through an alphanumeric pager.
