With the arrival of a lot of warm weather at Lake Mead much more radio traffic is found on marine channels 16 (Calling & Distress) and 17 (Working Incident). Since 156.800 and 157.100 are not easily heard in the Las Vegas valley directly one can often hear what is happening on these channels by monitoring 417.275 for channel 16 and 417.625 for channel 22.

Happy listening!

Speaking of Lake Mead I have seen 172.600 listed as a Lake Mead law channel but others have told me it is BLM Redrocks (I know BLM Vegas is 169.400), any intel on this frequency?

172.600 MHz In Lake Mead Area

BLM uses more than just 169.4000 in Southern Nevada. 172.600 has been used by the DOI-NPS Dispatch Center in Boulder City, NV to dispatch BLM law enforcement rangers after normal working hours. There is some land adjacent to the LMNRA that is federal but where the BLM Rangers have jurisdiction. Hope this answers your question.

Federal Uplink Or Downlink Frequencies

If you think they are using UHF as an uplink or downlink in a given area simply put your scanner in search mode in the most likely frequency area such as 406 to 420 MHz. Searching small limits at a time such as two MHz might help you find them. It has been years since I heard them using UHF links at Lake Mead. They may have moved to microwave for links between their dispatch center and various remote transmitter sites. Good luck with your search.

Any tones for these freqs?

Are there any ctcss or dcs tone values for these? FM right? Just asking because there are tons of 400 radios in this valley.
Thanks in advance.

170.050 is where the LMNRA rangers can usually be found. Many years ago it was on 166.300 but that is now a secondary or a support channel usually used by non-law enforcement personnel.

The 170.050 freq. is the NPS law enforcement channel for the Boulder Basin, referred to on air as BOULDER LE. The 166.300 freq. is used for other traffic in the Boulder Basin and for all traffic in other areas. It has more repeaters and better coverage; it is referred to on air as WILSON (due to the powerful repeater up on the Mt. Wilson ridge in Arizona).
